Pacing in her apartment, Jennifer did everything she could to ignore her constantly ringing phone. Taking a shower, making a snack, watching televison, and then attempting to read a book, she found it impossible. On the screen, she saw eight text messages and four voicemails. They were all from one person- Colin. The texts consisted of flirty messages such as, 'hey beautiful, you busy?' to 'I guess I will see you at work'. The voicemails were of the same nature, but gradually desended in excitement. She found the sadness in his voice to tear her apart, but the constant guilt ate her alive. With her fingers dancing upon the screen, she took a deep breath and responded.
Within seconds, her screen lit up and a response was on the screen. Not wanting to admit it, her heart jumped at his words. Even though it was a text, she could imagine his voice saying the words upon the screen.
I understand your concerns Jennifer. I will go wherever you want to get to know you better. I agree, we should get to know each other better. So where do you want to go?
Telling him the location on meeting and the time which was an hour, she ran to her closet and tore through it as if her life depended on it. Deciding on a skin tight purple dress that cut out at the hips and had a long dip on the back, she looked at herself in the mirror and smiled. She then placed her hair in a messy ponytail that complimented her nude makeup with her smokey-eye. Placing a soft nude color on her lips, she used her middle finger to smooth it out before leaving to meet up with her Irish crush.
Making her way into a taxi, every moment was filled with anxiety. Looking in the rear-view mirror of the driver, she fixed her hair before he complimented her. Thanking him, they pulled up to a not well-known restaurant before she got out, going to slip him money before a hand interrupted her. She turned to find it to be Colin. Greeting him with a smile, they fought over the payment until Colin eventually threw the money in the seat and the driver pulled away.
"I'll pay you back..." She said as he held open the door for her.
"Buy me a drink and we'll call it even..."
"I thought you said that you didn't drink..." She said as he brought her to a low-lit booth in the back of the establishment.
"Not alcohol..."
"So what do you want then?"
Giving her a sensual smirk as he slid beside her, Jennifer raised an eyebrow.
"To drink." She clarified.
"I'll let you know later...So tell me some things about you. What do you want me to know?'
Taking the question to her advantage, she decided to lay it all out before them.
"I am not the kind of girl to be a mistress."
Surprised by this, he choked on his spit. Drinking the water already placed on the table, he swallowed until his throat was clear.
"What makes you think that's what I want?"
"The way you act, the comments you make...the way you are...it tells me very clearly what you want..."
"I don't want sex Jennifer. I want you. Completely. I want you to surrender yourself to me."
"What? I told you, I will NOT be some mistress to you..."
"I don't want that either...I want you to be my girlfriend."
"Are you daft? You are married to someone else, you made vows to that person."
"Jennifer...a marriage means commitment. Her and I got married for the moment of it. I did love her, but by the time I realized I didn't want it, I was forced into the relationship by my family and hers. Threatened to marry her...I did not love her when I married her. I loved the relationship we had before. Her and I have an agreement to see others. She takes advantage of it a lot more..."
"How many times have you?"
"Twice. One was killed last year. Car accident..." He said taking another sip of his water.
"I'm so sorry."
"Don't be. I look at life in a bubble. Everything happens for whatever reason...I am not going to live my life with regrets. I saw you before at a premiere and you drove me crazy Jennifer. Before I met my wife..."
"Then why pursue her?"
"You were with somebody else and I didn't believe in cheating...I still don't. But we have an open marriage..."
"Why not get a divorce?"
"Her family is dangerous...ties to powerful people. I have no choice...I don't want to keep you a secret, but I fear I must for your safety."
"So what would happen? If I said yes to this?"
"We would have a normal relationship...dates, dinners, luncheons-hell, even brunch if you wanted it."
She giggled but then noticed her phone on the corner of her eye and saw Sebastian. Her stomach now felt even more guilty.
"Sebastian, what about him?"
"If you want to do this, it is up to you what you want. But you will be mine, and I will make sure he knows it..."
"I'll have to think about it..." She said as she slid from the booth to her feet.
"Are you leaving?"
She nodded as she headed toward the door. "I told you before, I will not be the mistress Colin. Not under any circumstances..." Turning, she left the establishment and hailed another taxi. Colin watched as she left. Motioning to the bar tender, he ordered a drink. "What on earth are you doing to me Miss Morrison?" He asked as he chugged the beverage until nothing remained.
