Getting around was becoming more and more difficult for Tanya. She either had to ask Eric to take her places or depend on public transportation. She needed to learn how to drive before the baby came. Eric had promised to take her driving on weekends but so far they had only been out once.
As they got ready to leave the house one morning, Tanya brought up the subject again of driving lessons. She didn't see the point of him going out of his way each day to take her to school. She could drive herself if he would only follow through on his promise and teach her to drive.
He was in a bad mood as he was most mornings. He dreamt of him and Tanya making love every night and in a good place in their relationship, but then he woke up and realize it was just a dream and that she did cheat on him with Luke. Each morning he woke up with the hope of feeling better but was faced with hard reality. He was no where close to forgetting or forgiving what Tanya did.
"Why don't you ask Luke? Why don't you invite him back to the island so he can teach you to drive?" Eric responded.
But Tanya was just as moody as he was this morning. "If Luke was my man and I was carrying his child I wouldn't have to ask him; he would know what to do to make my life easier," Tanya said.
"So now you are comparing me to that fucking traitor?" Eric asked angrily.
"You are the one who keep bringing him up; I have no way of knowing if Luke is even still alive," Tanya said.
Eric smile one of those smile that didn't reach his eyes. "If you care about your life and the life of the kid, don't ever let me find out that you are still talking to that fucker," Eric warned.
"Well at least I know now that you have not killed him...yet," Tanya responded.
She was baiting him. "You have a lot of mouth this morning; don't fucking tempt me Tanya." he said.
"I simply ask you to teach me to drive; what are you afraid of? that I will drive off the island?" Tanya asked equally pissed as he was.
Eric picked up his bag and walked out the door quite mad. Tanya wondered if he was taking her to school after the argument they just had. Tanya picked up her things to go catch the bus but he was waiting in the car for her. They drove in silence. He dropped her at school. As she opened the car door to leave, he told her to wait. "Call up the driving school; I will pay for the lessons," Eric said.
Tanya hissed her teeth and walked away without saying anything to him.
Tanya started taking driving lessons with a driving school. She thought she was a quick learner and she would have no problem passing the driving exam but she took it and failed. One part of the test was like a obstacle course with cones she had to drive through without touching. It was damn near impossible. She didn't see how anyone could pass that part of the test. She was very upset.
Aunt Daphne came to the rescue and, before Tanya knew it she got her license. Apparently her aunt knew someone in the department of public works who owed her a favor. That was how things worked on the island. Daphne also found a car for her..... a cute white Camaro. It looked sporty and Tanya fell in love instantly. Tanya went to the bank to get money to pay for the car and was shocked at all the money in her savings account. She looked at her aunt. Her aunt shrugged her shoulders.
"I am sure your husband put it there. It is his way of relieving his conscience," Aunt Daphne said.
Tanya withdrew just enough to pay for her car. Tanya was ecstatic that finally she would not have to depend on Eric to take her places; and no more public transportation for her; she now had her very own car.
