Chapter 2. Unravelling

Tanya gathered all the pictures and took them into the bedroom.  She could not stand to look at her and Luke in such intimate poses  so she could imagine how Eric felt about  seeing them.  And it suddenly dawned on her that she was set up. She couldn't prove it but she knew Eric's mother was behind  all of it.  Tanya was so angry at herself for being so gullible. How could she be so naive and stupid? She knew Luke was related to Sahita; it wasn't as if he hid it. She felt sick at the thought that Luke and Julia could be part of the plot. She had to find out but how? What had she done to Eric and to their marriage?  

She decided to call Luke.  She had to find out what he knew.

The phone rang once and as if he was expecting her call Luke answered.

"Luke?" Tanya said.  

"Princess? Are you ok?" Luke  asked as if he knew.

"No I am not.  Did you do it? Did you send those pictures to Eric? She cried

"Pictures? What pictures?" He asked

"Eric has them; he has dozens of pictures of us...together," She cried.

"Tanya hell no, I would never do that to you or anyone.  I know what a crazy fuck Eric is.  I had nothing to do with it, please believe me," he pleaded.

"Do you think Julia then?" He cut her off before she could finish the question.

"No, I don't believe  Julia had anything to do with anything like that." Luke said.

"How are you so sure Julia had nothing to do with it?" Tanya asked.

"Julia can't stand Eric; I cant see her working with him against you," Luke  said

"How did you just show up and was with me and Julia most of the time?" Tanya asked.

"So now you believe that I am working with Eric against you?" he asked.  

"I don't know  what to think anymore Luke," she said.

"Look Julia asked me to join her that first night at the restaurant.  She wanted to prank you  because she thought  that I looked  so much like Eric.  I wanted to meet you too so I went along.   I know Julia, we go to the same school; she is in an undergraduate program but we hang out sometimes," Luke explained. 

"So your cousin...Sahita had nothing  to do with  you showing  up?" Tanya asked.

"Sahita? My aunt? Why would she? I have not talked to my aunt in months.  I only talk to her when I visit the island," Luke said. 

"Eric's mother is your aunt? I thought you told me that she was your mother's cousin," Tanya said.

"You really don't trust me? Do you? She is a cousin but you know how it is on the island, all older relatives and close friends are  called aunts and  uncles," Luke reminded her.

"I don't trust anyone at this point, so tell me all you know," Tanya said.

"Look, when I told you that I love you, I meant  it Tanya. The only thing I was not forthright with you about  was that  it didn't happen overnight...I fell in love with you before I even met you.   I saw a photograph of you and I was smitten. You captivated me from the moment I saw your photograph.  I didn't tell you because I thought  that you would think that I was crazy to have fallen in love with a picture.  But after I met you and hang out with you, there was no doubt that  I was in love with you.   I would never  set Eric on you or  on anyone for that matter," Luke said. 

"Don't say that you love me Luke. He will kill you," Tanya told him. 

"Eric has to understand what happened and didn't happen.  Falling in love is  not something I have any control over Princess," Luke said.
