Tanya struggled with the big box  pushing it into the living room.  It was all wrapped up with a big bow.  She pushed it toward Eric.  "This is your Christmas  present," she told him.

Eric looked at her then ripped open the package.  It was full with clothes from shirts to socks....everything that he would ever need to wear.  His response to her was  that she shouldn't have bothered. He saw the disappointment on her face and he quickly cleaned up his remark.

"I meant that you shouldn't have braved the crowd in your condition to get me gifts," Eric said.

"It was no big deal; Lloyd helped me picked out everything; you dress like a bum yet you drive the fanciest of cars," Tanya replied.

"Thanks; I love the shirts and the pants too; I love everything," he said.  He really needed clothes.  He could not remember the last time he went shopping for himself.  That was his mother's  job but she seemed to have cut him off since he got married.

Tanya cradled the puppy in her arms. "And I love him," she said referring to the puppy he gave her.

Eric smiled. "He is a girl," Eric said.

Tanya laughed.  Tanya asked what they should name the dog. Eric shrugged his shoulders. Tanya decided she would call the dog Pepper since she was so feisty. Deep down Tanya was just miserable. Tanya really missed her family because the holidays were always huge festive occasions where family from all over met at her parents' home to celebrate and above all she missed the closeness she once had with Eric.

She tried again to explain the call from Luke but Eric did not want to hear it. Tanya sighed.

That fucker Luke had the nerve to ask if he was holding Tanya against her will.  Was he?  Eric had lost faith in everyone including his own mother.  Every time he thought of Luke touching Tanya he had to get drunk so he didn't kill someone. There were other times he needed her so bad he had to get drunk to forget what she did. He woke a few mornings in her bed next to her, sometimes completely naked and he was sure she had undressed him. She told him he came to her crying that he wanted his wife and she couldn't turn him away even though she knew he was drunk. That was the only time he came close to her.

She was right there in the house with him yet he missed her so fucking much. She had been the one person he could confide in, talked to when something was bothering him and he had trusted her with his life. She had been more than a wife to him, she had become his best friend too. Now all of that was gone. And why was Luke calling the house? Had she been talking to Luke behind his back?  Tanya tried to explain the call but he didn't believe that it was just a random call. He wanted to put a hurt on Luke so bad but Jimmy warned him against doing anything drastic. "Don't let Tanya ever find out how diabolic you are; it will turn her off from you completely," Jimmy warned. 'I am not diabolic'

Eric thought of something.  The fucker wanted to be a surgeon; a nice revenge if he didn't kill him would be to fuck up his hands so bad that he never operate on a patient ever again. Eric smiled at the thought.

Eric was in the kitchen getting a beer. Tanya walked into the kitchen carrying that damn puppy. He was beginning to regret giving her that puppy. She and the puppy were inseparable. He had to keep reminding her that the dog was a dog and not a child. The dog was getting on his last nerve. He couldn't even walk close to Tanya or enter her room without getting barked at. If she was acting this way now as a pup, how will she behave when she becomes a grown adult dog? Eric wondered.
