The holidays were the worst.  Tanya  felt a deep sense of loss in her soul as if everyone very dear to her had just vanished from her life. That first Christmas following the "break" with Eric was the most difficult. Lloyd tried to cheer her up by helping her decorate the house and took her shopping.  She was pregnant and felt so alone. Her aunt wanted her to come to her place in the capital but she wanted to stay close to Eric just in case he had a change of heart about her. She always thought Christmas brought out the best in people and she wished that the season did that for Eric.  She was hoping that above all things, including a healthy baby, she prayed for  forgiveness from  her husband.  She knew that he still loved her but he was having a hard time believing in her again after what happened with Luke.

Just when she thought that they were making progress, the worst thing that could happen in her mind, happened. A few days before Christmas the phone rang and Tanya picked up. There was no mistake who  was on the other end.  Tanya was shocked to hear his voice and she didn't know how to respond to him.  She just stood there frozen in shock.

"Merry Christmas Princess; Princess? Please answer me and let me know that you are ok and he is not holding you against your will," Luke said.

Eric walked in just at that moment and Tanya almost peed herself.  He must have noticed the scared look on Tanya's face and grabbed  the phone away from her and put it to his ear.  And the last person he expected to hear on the other line spoke.  How fucking dare he? Eric wished that he could pull the fucker through the phone and stumped on his face, Eric thought.

"You are fucking dead," Eric told Luke and hung up.

He turned and looked at Tanya and she would remember that look for the rest of her life.  It was not rage, it was more like disappointment, mixed with sadness and hopelessness as if to say, really? You haven't hurt me enough? He looked at her for a good couple of minutes, then he reached for a knife. Tanya was sure that he was going to kill her this time. She stood there still frozen with tears running down her face.  Then she grabbed onto her belly.  Then Eric  turned the knife around so he was holding the blade.  That gesture said it all.  There  was an island saying that the person who had the handle of the knife had all the power while the one with the blade had none.

"Go ahead take this and plunge it into my heart and twist it, good" he said.

"Eric I was not talking to him; I was in shock hearing his voice," she explained.

Eric dropped the knife then turned and walked away.  Tanya followed him.

"Eric please listen to me; I had no idea it was him; I was as surprised to hear from him as you were," she cried. But Eric had no more  word for her.  He walked through the door, got into his car and took off at warp speed down the drive way.  "Eric," Tanya screamed as he drove away.

She cried.  She knew what he thought.  He thought  that she had continued the relationship with  Luke behind his back.  And she hoped for Luke's sake that he was not on the island because if he was Eric would find him.

Christmas eve was just horrible.  She had gotten use to having Lloyd around when Eric was not but  a few days before Christmas  Lloyd announced that he was  going  home for a few  days.   Eric said no problem because he would be home with Tanya  but  that was before Luke called.   She did not know where Eric was. She kept looking out the window, hoping he would come back home. She felt like she was alone in the world and regretted not going to the capital to spend Christmas with her aunt.  Aunt  Daphne who usually spend Christmas  at her brother's home  declined Tanya's mother invitation to spend Christmas with the family. With her brother dead and Tanya ostracized  from the family, Daphne  did not feel  right going there to spend the holidays with Edie and her family.
