"Where were you? I was worried?" Tanya said.
Eric laughed. "You worried about me? Or were you hoping that I was dead? That would make way for you to run off to be with Luke; he claims that he loves you; do you feel the same?" Eric said as if he was mocking her.
"I don't feel anything for Luke; I love you," Tanya said.
"You kissed a man you felt nothing for? You expect me to believe that?" he shouted.
He told her she should be thankful he left when he did because if he stayed he would have killed her.
His language was so foul; every other word was a curse word. All the respect he had for her was gone. Tanya scoped out the place as she planned her escape but he had her backed up against the wall. There was no where for her to run. She was at his mercy. He touched her face as he gazed into her eyes. Tanya tried to hold his gaze because she knew that looking anywhere but at him meant guilty as charged.
His eyes looked glazed over. "So beautiful, you look like my Tanya but you are not her; my Tanya would never lie to me; my Tanya is pure and has never been touched by any man but me; you are an imposter," he said.
"Please Eric," she said as her eyes fill up with tears and spilled over and ran down her face.
"Please Eric? What are you asking for Tanya? Mercy, forgiveness, what?" he asked.
Mercy? Could she ask for mercy for their unborn child? No that would never do; it would only exacerbate things; he would never believe this baby was his now, she thought.
He gently touched her neck with his uninjured hand as if he was caressing her neck, then he began to squeeze her neck, gently at first then his grip got tighter and tighter like a vice around her neck. The tears rolled down her face as she struggled to get free. He let go of her and watched her as she gasped for air. He then crashed onto the bed and fell asleep almost instantly. She thanked god that he was exhausted from drinking and lack of sleep for two days, or else who knew what would have happen, she thought.
Tanya knew she had to leave. She was afraid the next time he would kill her. As he slept, Tanya quickly packed her bag and called a taxi to get to her aunt. She was crying so hard, she couldn't see what she was doing. She hoped Eric didn't wake up before the taxi came. The taxi driver asked her what was wrong but she didn't say or she couldn't say.

When Tanya got to her aunt's place she started crying and couldn't stop. Her aunt gave her some cold water to drink. It took Tanya a whole hour before she could calm down. Her aunt couldn't miss the bruises on her face and neck and her arm was bruised and swollen from Eric twisting it to get the truth out of her. Tanya wondered if it was broken. Her aunt Daphne who always exhibit a tough exterior that nothing could phase busted out in tears; Daphne cried and asked who did that to her. She was afraid a pervert attacked her on her way over. Tanya had never seen her aunt cry before, not even when her brother died. Tanya confessed that it was Eric.
"Wait a wha de bac side you just sey?" Daphne always divert to the island dialect when she gets angry. "Eric did this to you?" Daphne asked.
Tanya nodded yes. Without saying another word Aunt Daphne picked up the phone and dialed a number. "Corporal Bryant please," Daphne said. Tanya ran over and canceled the call.
"It's my fault Aunty," Tanya cried. Tanya showed her the pictures. Aunt Daphne stood with her mouth open in disbelief.
"Who is this you with? This is not Eric?" Daphne said baffled at the uncanny resemblance of Luke to Eric.
