Chapter 35. Changing The Pact

After making love to Tanya on her birthday,  Eric had a constant desire to be with her.  He couldn't get enough of her, however,  he had a hard time dealing with his feelings. He did not know if he could ever trust her again.  And so he decided to take things a day at a time. 

Tanya, however, wanted to get their life back on track.   Sex was  off the chart but she wanted more from him than just a nightly roll in the hay.   Sex always  seems to get in the way of her having a substantive conversation with him.  He wanted to make love all the time.  He  used sex to distract her.  Eric was no fool; he knew that she wanted to talk commitment , but he was not ready for that. 

Tanya  told him that she was back on birth control and he politely nodded and said great.  Eric lay on the bed  with his head in Tanya's lap and started playing with her breasts. He obviously wanted sex, but she wanted to talk. She was not about to be sidetracked again this night.

"Can we talk?" Tanya asked.

"Sure, later," he said. 

"Eric seriously, I need to talk to you; this day to day thing is not doing it for me; I need a husband not a lover."  He knew  that  she was right but he did not want to have this discussion.

"So what do you need to talk about?" he asked getting all serious and gazing at her though squinted eyes. It was a strategy of his to intimidate her into backing off, but Tanya thought not this time.

"I need to talk about us," she said getting  nervous. Eric kept looking at her which made her feel quite uneasy, and made it even more difficult for her to express her thoughts.

"Well you know....we been sleeping together every night since  last Friday but you haven't said anything about.....you know us," she said.

"What do you want me to say? There is nothing  wrong with what we do? You are my wife," he said coolly as if the whole conversation was a waste of his time.

"Well for one thing, are we back together?  I don't know what to think; you haven't talked to me about what you are thinking.  Were you seeing other people while we were apart? And if you were, are you still doing that?........I just need to know what is going on," Tanya said.  

It was hard for her to believe that Eric had been faithful throughout the   upheaval in their life.  She heard stories about him and other women, but she needed to hear  from him that  all of that was now in the past.  Eric looked at her, then looked away, then back at her.

"Do you want us back together? Is that what you want?" Eric asked.

"Yes of course; that is what I want Eric....to work on our relationship to get  back to that place where we were.   Now that we have Ericka, it is imperitive that we get back to that place.....as  a family. Don't you want that too?" Tanya asked.

He was quiet for a moment as Tanya held her breath anxiously waiting for his answer.

"We can get back together Tanya......but it will have to be on different terms," Eric said.

Terms? This was not the response she expected. She felt that she was in the board room negotiating a deal.

"What do you mean by terms? What terms," Tanya asked.

"You will have to prove to me that you deserve another chance, that you are still that girl I fell in love with and married, because I don't know anymore, not after the way you betrayed me with that asshole," he said through clenched teeth. 

Tanya mouth dropped almost to the floor; she was speechless.  'So he is far from over that'

"So you are saying that while I am here proving to you that I am a good girl, you will be out there doing whatever you feel like  with no commitment whatsoever to me?" Tanya asked him. In a nutshell that was it, but he did not dare say yes to her.
