Tanya quickly realized that when trust is lost in a relationship, love alone is not enough.  She loved her husband and she was sure that he still loved her but something was missing...trust. She needed to gain back her husband's trust. But how?  Things between them had deteriorated  even further since she revealed to him that his mother might have messed with his mind when he was a young boy and suggested that he not eat anything his own mother prepared.  That right there in itself messed with his mind.  She was talking about his mother.  If he could not trust his mother  or Tanya, then who could he trust? He felt totally lost.

Eating at home before  was seldom but after that conversation with Tanya it  had become  non existent.  Eric  told Tanya  right out not to cook anything for him and he brought home his drinks every evening, which turn out to be beer.  He did not trust anyone...definitely not her.

It was the weekend  and a beautiful Friday evening with a slight breeze coming off the ocean and a gorgeous sunset as a backdrop.  Tanya thought this was an opportunity to offer Eric an olive branch.  One of them had to make the effort  and Eric was too angry to make a move.  Tanya decided to make  dinner for them with the intention of having a romantic candle lit dinner outside on the back deck overlooking the ocean.  She got all dressed up and waited for Eric.  She was starved, but still she waited for Eric to come home.  He finally walked through the door close to eight PM.  He did not seem to notice that she had made the effort to dress up for him.

"I have dinner ready and waiting; can we eat outside on the back deck?" Tanya said greeting him with a smile as he walked in.

"I am not hungry.  I thought I told you not to cook anything for me," Eric said heading toward the kitchen.

"Why Eric? Why are you acting like you are afraid of me.  Do you think I am going to lace your food with poison?" She asked getting angry at him.

He ignored her and went  instead for a beer  from the case he brought home.  Tanya was upset at him.  She confronted him. "Eric look at me."

He refused to look at her.  "Eric look at me!" Tanya shouted at him.

He looked at her.  "Do you think I would hurt you by putting shit in your food?"

If he couldn't trust his own mother, who could he trust? The woman who cheated on him and lied to him?  "To be honest I don't know anymore. What if you want me out of the way so you can go be with him?" Eric asked.  He could not bear to say Luke's name.

Tanya knew he meant Luke.  Tanya's eyes popped opened in shock that he could think that of her.  How could he think that I would get rid of him so I could be with Luke? He really did not trust her, Tanya thought.  Her eyes overflowed with tears and she quickly wiped them away.

"That hurts like hell Eric.  I am here with you even though you have shown me no love in months...I stay because I love you and I want to make things right with us, and I am hoping that we can have what we had before, but If you think that I would poison you, then there is no hope for us and I am wasting my time and your time and I think that  I should just leave," Tanya said and walked away in tears.

Eric blocked her exit stopping her from leaving.   Eric closed his eyes.  Life could not be anymore fucked up for him and for them.  "I am sorry. I know that you would never do anything  like that; I know that we could never deliberately hurt each other in that way."

He touched her face wiping away a tear with his thumb.  "There is something magical that holds us and keeps us together, something bigger than the two of us...something that we feel but don't understand and cant  explain  to anyone," he said tearing up.
