It was hard to believe that baby Ericka was already four months old. Tanya kept mulling over the idea of her christening. Aunt Daphne kept hinting that it was bad luck to be walking around with a child that has not been blessed. Tanya mentioned to Eric that they needed to plan the baby's christening. Tanya was apprehensive about it. Who should she invite and who would attend? She sure did not want his mother there. On the other hand she thought that this might be an opportunity to bring the families together.
Aunt Daphne promised to talk to Tanya's side of the family. The response was quick in coming back; no one wanted any part of it. Tanya was disappointed that they had all declined her invitation. And she couldn't blame her mother. She lost the love of her life .....the person whom she planned to grow old with was now gone because of Tanya and Eric.
Despite Aunt Daphne's advice against it, Tanya hesitantly asked Eric about his parents coming to the christening. He literally froze.
"I dont want them there; I dont want them near Ericka," Eric said without elaborating.
He did not mind his father coming, but he was afraid that his mother would find out and come just to cause trouble. He was paranoid since the kidnapping. And as for his uncle Linden. He plain out told them that organized religion was a system of oppression and he would not be putting his foot in any such church. He offered instead to give Ericka a party fit for the princesss that she was.
Tanya decided that she and Eric would just go and have the baby blessed. Eric bitched and moaned and asked if they really had to, citing what his uncle said about organized religion. He didn't see the need for a christening. Tanya insisted that the baby would be blessed even if she and Ericka went alone. Tanya asked Eric about godparents. "She doesn't need any of that crap," Eric said. When Tanya mentioned Sharon to be Ericka's godmother, Eric exploded.
"Are you fucking kidding me? I don't want that whore to be my daughter's godmother," He said. Tanya was blocked at every step of the way.
"Look, no worries, I will go by myself; I have been doing everything by myself since I got pregnant with Ericka." Tanya said.
That got his attention. "What about your Aunt Daphne?" Eric asked.
Tanya looked at him and just exploded in anger at him. "Aunt Daphne is not my husband or Ericka's father," Tanya told him.
She was disappointed in him and she told him so. She brought up Ericka's birth again. She would never let him forget that he was not present for Ericka's birth and he never stopped apologizing.
Tanya prepared for the christening. She invited only the two aunts, Daphne and Sunday. The Sunday morning of the christening, she dressed Ericka and left her in her crib. Tanya was in her bathroom getting ready, when Eric came to the door all dressed in his suit with Ericka in his arms.
"The kid is burning up in this damn dress; do you think you will be ready to leave anytime today?" Eric asked Tanya.
Tanya smiled; she was so happy that he had changed his mind about going. Aunt Daphne and Sunday pulled up in a brand new Mercedes all dressed in their Sunday best. Daphne told Tanya and Eric to get in the car. Eric looked at Tanya. Tanya knew that was a no. He was not about to let Daphne and Sunday drive him anywhere.
"You go with them; I will follow in my car," Eric told Tanya.
After the pastor blessed the baby he gave her to Eric and complimented him on what a beautiful baby Ericka was and how happy he was to see him in church. He gave them advice on how to bring up Ericka. Eric couldn't wait to get out of the church. Tanya planned for them to have lunch after the christening but Aunt Daphne kissed the baby and hugged Tanya. She told Tanya that she and Sunday had a plane to catch. Eric looked at each of the women.
