Back at the house Tanya stopped by the nursery to see Ericka. She was asleep. Becky said the baby fussed a little before she went to sleep. Before Tanya turned in for the night, she stopped by Eric's room. After listening to all those love songs and drinking that wine and getting that kiss from Eric, Tanya felt in the mood for some good loving. She missed that. She thought that she would settle for just plain sex if that was all Eric had to offer this night. He said that she was drunk and maybe she was. Tanya went looking for him and could hear like he was strumming his guitar. She knocked on the door.
"Enter," he said. She pushed the door and slowly walked in. Tanya rarely went into Eric's room. It was a beautiful room with floor to ceiling windows and a balcony overlooking the ocean. The last time she went in there, there was a gun on his dresser. When she asked about it, he got very defensive and asked what she was doing in his room.
Eric sat on the edge of his bed tuning his guitar. There was a picture frame lying face down on the table next to his bed. Tanya picked it up and looked at it; it was a photograph of the two of them together. They had taken that picture the day they got married. She wondered why he kept it there faced down; if he didn't want to see it then he could just keep it in a drawer. What Tanya didn't know was that Eric looked at her photograph every day before he left for work and at nights before he went to sleep. The girl in that picture was HIS Tanya.
"You ok?" he asked. Tanya nodded yes.
"How is Ericka?" he asked.
"She is asleep; Becky said that she was fussy," Tanya told him.
"I guess she missed you," Eric said.
Tanya nodded. "Missed us; she loves to see you too before she goes to sleep," Tanya said.
"I was just about to look in on her," Eric said. Eric felt awkward having Tanya in his room.
"She is sleeping ; maybe you could come later when I give her the 3:AM feeding," Tanya said.
"Sure; I could feed her if you prep a bottle," he said. Eric knew that she was not there to make small talk about the baby.
Tanya stood and just stared at him as if she could see right through him and know all the shit he had been up to.
"What?" Eric asked.
"What is it Eric? Are you sleeping with someone else?" She asked.
He looked at her. "No Tanya, I am not sleeping with anyone." he said.
"Then what is it? Are you still mad at me for having Ericka," Tanya asked.
Eric closed his eyes. "Why do you keep coming back to this? I told you tonight what my daughter means to me; you know that having Ericka is not the reason why I was mad at you," he said.
Tanya knew that Ericka was the bridge to get them back together one day and so she hoped.
"I can't imagine life without her; Ericka is the only joy I have in my life now," Eric continued.
"It doesn't have to be that way Eric," Tanya said.
"I don't know how to make it better," he said sadly.
"How about forgiveness? Will I ever have that from you?" she asked.
Eric closed his eyes. "I hope for that one day but right now I am not there," he said.
"I am so sorry I hurt you," she said.
He kept quiet. He did not want to have this conversation. It only ignited the anger inside him. The anger he felt toward Luke and toward himself for sending his innocent wife to New York to be preyed upon.
