Meredith still wasn't sure this was her life. Or she was, she was really sure this was happening except oart of her still didn't know how to believe it even though she was moving toward the therapy room with two cups of coffee in her hand. She wasn't supposed to get the guy in this mess. Everyone had told her the other woman never got the guy. The other woman never got kisses and late night conversations and dates. It just didn't happen. Except it had happened for her. Right now, she was going to meet the guy who never should have chosen her. Except he had. He had picked her and now they were going on a date really soon and it was kind of amazing. She had really walked away quite certain she was never going to see him again and now she was going to kiss him. In a few minutes, she'd be able to kiss him.

Ever since he had come to her house, they hadn't gotten a lot of time alone. He was living with his mom until Maggie was out of the house and Mrs. Shepherd was almost always on time to pick him up. And Meredith had been insanely busy with work. They had stolen a few moments after his therapy, but now she had some time to kill. She had a surgery in about an hour but that meant that it was not enough time for her to get paged for anything else and just enough time to visit with Derek. His mom was picking him up later and it was going to be really nice. Short and she had no idea if they'd get any privacy but it would still be nice.

So right now, she was kind of bouncy and grinning. She knew she looked like an idiot, Cristina kept telling her she looked like an idiot but she didn't care. Derek was an amazing guy and now he was...her guy. Or something. She wasn't sure what he was, but she couldn't wait to see him. It was lame and stupid and definitely not her but she was definitely going with this. It felt amazing to be around him, even more amazing than it had been when he was with Maggie. Now they were free to just be them and enjoy each other.

She was desperate to really enjoy him, to curl up next to him and just...be with him. She gripped his coffee and watched him through the window as he limped across the room, his entire body shaking. He was doing so well and she knew soon he'd return to all of his normal activities.

He probably would always have a bit of a limp, now that he was healing more it was easy to see that. She had a feeling it would only be really noticeable after too much walking so she was hoping it wouldn't bother him too much. He had healed so much. He had fought to get to this point and she just hoped he wasn't going to pretend a limp made any of his hard work worthless. She just wanted him to continue to heal and just...be happy. He turned and he immediately grinned when he saw her and her heart did crazy bouncy things that weren't possible.

It was stupid. He was so good looking but it was stupid that a simple smile could make her body humm with something that she wasn't even sure what it was. Except it happened and now she was just really happy she had some time to spend with him.

"Hey," she grinned at him as she moved into the therapy room, watching as Derek fell into a chair and Aaron handed him a towel.

"Hey," he smiled, panting slightly.

"Worked hard?" she breathed as she leaned down close to him.

"Hmmm...yeah," he nodded.

"He did great work," Aaron nodded.

"Thanks, Aaron," Derek smiled.

"I watched you for a couple minutes, you'll be walking without the cane before we know it," she murmured softly.

"You think?" he breathed.

"Definitely. And driving."

"Driving will be nice."

"It will give us...you some freedom."

"Us," he nodded.

"Us," she smiled, leaning closer to him, their noses touching.
