Derek couldn't get over how quickly this had started to feel normal. It wasn't that he hadn't done groceries with a girl before, he had a million times, but him and Meredith had fallen into this habit almost the second they had started dating. It was fast and he knew it. But it just felt natural, like they had been doing it for years. They had established a good routine. Once a week, they came to the grocery store. He pushed the cart and Meredith grabbed things they didn't need and threw them in the cart. It was what they did. Meredith definitely still ate like a college student which led to some interesting arguments in the store but he still really loved it. It was stupid to like it this much but if he was being honest, everything with her felt a little more exciting.

She made the most mundane aspects of his life thrilling and while grocery shopping had always been a chore, now he looked forward to it. He didn't quite understand it but he had a feeling it meant something. Everything was going amazing for them. It wasn't perfect, they fought and they banged heads sometimes but he had never been this settled in a relationship, this comfortable and content to just be around someone. He was already thinking of really big things.

It scared even him a little how fast this was moving. He had never felt this way before and everyday he expected to wake up from this. But every day was just as incredible as the day before. He was definitely starting to think of making this forever. Not that he was going to say anything, although it had been hinted at at his mom's house, but he definitely was starting to consider taking her to see the land he loved and starting to think of marriage. It was huge.

But he couldn't be thinking about it right now. They were grocery shopping and he should probably be paying more attention to what was about to go in the cart. He loved his girlfriend more than anything but she was a terrible shopper. He had no idea exactly how she had survived before she had met him. She seemed to grab whatever sounded good at the time with no thought at all about cost or if it was needed or healthy at all. She just went with what sounded yummy. Sometimes he thought she did it just to get him going, but mostly he just thought his vivacious girlfriend shopped the way she lived, totally on the fly. "Okay, I have to try these," she announced as she threw some kind of granola bar in the cart.

"You have to try them?" he frowned, grabbing them back out of the cart.

"Granola bars are totally on the list, Derek."

"They are?"

"Yes."

"We really need them?"

"I eat them," she rolled her eyes. "And those are covered in dark chocolate."

"Which means you might as well buy chocolate bars."

"Except granola bars are healthy," she grinned.

"Not when they're covered in chocolate."

"Dark chocolate prevents cancer."

"Meredith..."

"It does! Do you want me to die of cancer?"

"Of course not but I also don't want you to get diabetes."

"That's stupid."

"How?"

"Because it is. Now put them in the cart."

"Why not get the ones not covered in chocolate?"

"Because those sound yummy."

"You're like a five year old," he rolled his eyes.

"You love me."

"Still...five year old."

"You keep bringing me."
