Derek had never been happier in his life. He'd generally think it was a ridiculous thought but after the night he had had last night, he knew he had never been happier than he was right now. He had figured his first date with Meredith would be great, he had all but assumed it but it had been beyond anything. This was it, he knew that much. He had never quite understood what his dad had been talking about when he had said meeting his mom had been it. But now Derek got it. He understood that nothing in his life mattered anymore. He had Meredith, and he couldn't imagine not having her ever again. Everything had clicked the night before, everything had come together. The jazz festival had been a perfect time and then he really hadn't intended to sleep with her when they had come to her house, but really it had felt like the most natural thing in the world.

Being with her, being inside her, had just felt...it had felt like nothing else he had ever experienced. He didn't even have the words for it yet, even if he wanted to think of them. But he didn't have the words to describe the way he had felt last night in bed with Meredith Grey. It had been incredible and then he hadn't known what to expect when they had finished. They had said slow and that had been anything but. But then Meredith had curled up into him, and asked him to stay and he couldn't have been happier.

Falling asleep with her in his arms had made his heart skip a beat, had made everything just feel right. It had been the best night's sleep he had ever had. And now he was just desperate to spend the rest of the day with her, even if he knew it was impossible. He wasn't quite sure what time she needed to be at work for, she had said later in the day. And he definitely had some paperwork he needed to tackle which meant they needed to say goodbye at some point but it didn't mean he wasn't going to try to stretch this out.

So he had made his way downstairs while she was still curled up in bed, snoring slightly. He had actually been surprised by the snoring, by the loud noise that came out of such a tiny person, but he had also found it very endearing. He found everything about Meredith Grey to be endearing.

He had been pretty certain before the date that Maggie might be right and that he was in love with Meredith. But now he knew his ex-girlfriend had been on to something. If he wasn't already in love with Meredith, he was just about ready to be. She was beautiful and smart and funny and...incredible. Everything about her was incredible and he knew he was done. There would never be another first date, this was it for him. He was pretty sure he was going to spend the rest of his life with her, and that made his head spin. He hadn't even been thinking about finding that when he had met her. He had thought she was cute and easy to talk to but that hardly meant he was going to grow old with her but now he couldn't imagine doing anything but. And it had only been one night together.

And now it was the morning after. She was sleeping, his back was aching in the most pleasurable way imaginable, and he was digging through her pantry. He knew she was a busy surgical resident who wasn't at home very often, but her pantry was a little sad. She had said that she needed to do groceries and that much was very clear but he had a distinct feeling that it actually wouldn't make it much better. But she must have something he could pull together for a breakfast for her besides the half eaten box of Lucky Charms.

Meredith kind of ate like a college student, a lot like a college student actually, and he had a feeling one day it would annoy him. But as of right now, he just thought it was kind of cute. So far though, he had discovered chocolate chips, or at least a bag that was half full, which suggested she had snacked on them at some point. She had eggs in her fridge but no bacon or sausage or anything else to cook with them so that wasn't really an option. There had to be something, some stuff that she had laying around that would do to pull together a meal to wake her up with. He just wanted to make this special for her. She had never done this, never been in a relationship so he couldn't just leave her to fend for herself. A good day started with a good breakfast and this was going to be a good day.
