Cassiopeia was about a year old now, 10 months since they adopted her. While she could understand basic words like 'no' 'bye' and 'yes', she was starting to try to say words but couldn't pronounce vowels correctly yet.
Now as Amina sat in the dining hall next to her boyfriend with their daughter on the table in front of them, she babbled on and on about something that Aleksander pretended to understand until her next word made everyone freeze.
"Daddy"
And that was all it took for the usually composed General Kirigan to start tearing up. He tried. He really tried to hold it in but he just couldn't hold it in. He started crying. He disregarded all the surprised looks that were sent his way and only focused on the child in front of him.
Needless to say, Aleksander did not get a single thing done that way. He was too busy making figures out of his shadows for Cassiopeia to play with for him to actually do something.
He brought his daughter with him everywhere, even to a meeting with the king. It got to the point where he wasn't paying attention at all and the king dismissed him, telling him to meet with him tomorrow.
