Allie and Devana were standing by Allie's locker. My locker was across from theirs. I was watching my teenage daughters as they laughed and smiled. Their first-class was about to start, Allie has history with Mr. Yukimura and Devana has AP Biology with Mrs. Finch. Liam and Mason will be with Allie, so they will keep an eye on her. Lydia, Kira, Scott, and I will be with Devana.
Mason ran up to Liam in the hallway with a large leather book in his hands. "This is the one I was telling you about. I got it from a rare book dealer in Germany. Cost me two hundred bucks, but it was totally worth it." Mason said.
Liam anxiously asked, "You're still reading about this stuff?"
"I was attacked by an armor-plated giant wearing a bear skull— it left an impression," he replied. Mason showed him a picture from in the book. "Look. Look, have you ever seen anything like this?"
Liam looked and saw a Berserker, "Uh, no... never..." Liam lied.
"And then there's this whole section about the Nagual. Have you ever heard of the name Tez-cat—"
"—Tezcatlipoca," Liam said easily. Mason gave him an odd look. "No. No, never heard of them." Liam took off running.
"Wait! What about Hybrids?!" Mason shouted but Liam didn't answer.
The two of them head into history, when Liam sees Allie he instantly smiles. He looks at the only empty desk and who is next to him, his smile drops. "Oh... great." Liam stood between the empty desk and the girl known as Hayden,
"Liam... You're not gonna just stand there are you?"
"Maybe..."
"The whole semester?" Mr. Yukimura asked.
"...Maybe..." he repeated.
Mr. Yukimura sighed, "Liam, have a seat."
When Liam sat down he didn't only sit in the seat. He sat in bubble gum—Hayden's bubble gum. She giggled as Liam sat there embarrassed. Allie sat upfront, she started to get angry but took some deep breathes. Mr. Yukimura noticed and walked over to her. "Allie... do you need to leave for a moment?"
"N-No. I can handle it."
"If you need to go. You have my permission to leave."
Allie nodded as she finally relaxed and was able to focus in class.
~AP Biology~
"Scott? Are you in the right class?" Kira asked.
"AP Biology?" Scott replied.
"Do you know what AP Biology stands for?" Lydia asked.
Scott smiled, "...Advanced Placement?" he answered. Scott opened his textbook that was full of notes and highlighted texts. Kira and Lydia looked at one another, impressed. Devana and I walked in, the three of them looked at us. Devana didn't stop to talk to anyone she just sat down next to Lydia.
I walked over to Scott who looked concerned, "What's wrong?"
"How are they doing?" he asked.
"They like it. I haven't had a single problem yet. Allie has class with Liam and Mason. Everything seems to be going smoothly. Devana has... she has anger issues. I'm working on something right now but I may need—"
"—Welcome to AP Biology! Let's see who's awake." Mrs. Finch said walking in. I rushed to the only empty seat in the back which was next to Theo. "Can somebody tell me what plasmids are?" she asked.
Lydia raised her hand, "Circular, self-replicating DNA molecules often used in cloning proteins." Lydia answered.
"Nicely stated, Lydia. Now, can you tell me what vitamin is absorbed in the stomach via parietal cell production of glycoprotein?" She asked Lydia.

"B-12," Devana mumbled.
Mrs. Finch looked at Devana, "That's correct and who are you?"
"Devana."
Mrs. Finch looked at her curiously, she then saw Scott in her class. "Mr. McCall, did you happen to know the answer? Well, before Devana answered it."
"Um, no."
"It's a common test question. What's your number one college pick?"
"Umm..."
"Stop saying, um..." she said annoyed.
"Sorry. UC-Davis."
"Good choice. It's the best school on the west coast for biological and physical sciences. You're in the right class if that's what you're hoping for. Who else thinks they're in the right class?" Mrs. Finch asked. Theo raised his hand and everyone else followed. "Good! Then you should all be prepared for the test tomorrow." Everyone groaned, "Don't be disappointed! This test is specifically to help you determine whether you should actually be in AP Biology. You have two weeks to drop. Tomorrow's test will just weed out the ones who shouldn't be there... And that could be any of you." she explained turning to Scott.
I heard a growl coming from the front of the room, "Oh, no." I mumbled.
"What's wrong?" Theo whisperly-asked.
"Devana. She's getting angry."
Theo looked at the clock, "Class is over in one minute."
I kept looking at the clock. "I need your help," I begged...
"Sure. What can I do?"
"When the bell ring she isn't going to get up and leave. She's gonna wait until everyone leaves. Once she's alone with Mrs. Finch she's gonna tear her apart. I need you to lock the door and close the shade. I'm gonna have you and Scott hold her down." I explained.
