Malia was sitting behind a girl named Beth in Science class. "One of the more common biological weapons, anthrax, was used by Germany in World War I, and inhuman experimentation by the Japanese during World War II." Ms. Martin began explaining.
Beth had her laptop opened and Malia noticed she was looking at something called the Perigee-syzygy. "Beth? Please close your computer. I won't ask again." Ms. Martin ordered. Beth closed her laptop and sat there biting her nails until one popped off completely. She looked down and saw silver liquid instead of blood coming out of her finger. She turned her head and noticed Malia was watching her. She grabbed her laptop and ran out the door. "Beth... Beth!" Ms. Martin yelled for her.
Malia got up and started for the door when Ms. Martin stood in her way. "Malia, if you have to use the restroom, it's one at a time. And, if you're planning on leaving class, I'd consider your recent drop in grades."
"She needs help," Malia said, referring to Beth.
"Not from you."
"You know what's going on... Don't you?"
"I know that I'd like to see you get through senior year with passing grades." Ms. Martin crossed her arms.

"You know more than that," Malia said, her eyes changing bright blue.
Ms. Martin gulped. "I think you need to focus more on your schoolwork— all of you." She referred to Malia and Scott's pack. Ms. Martin moved out of her way.
Malia ran down the hall and confronted Beth. "Beth? Are you okay?"
"Why are you talking to me? You don't know anything about me. You don't know anything about my condition." She freaked.
"What? What do you mean?" Malia questioned.
"My condition... my condition... my condition..." She stuttered.
