–Beacon Hills High School–

Allie walked up to Malia and Lydia. "Hey! What's going on?"

"You ever heard of the Dread Doctors?" Lydia asked.

"Well, I've read about them in my great aunts bestiary."

"Wait, you have a bestiary? Like, the Argents." Malia asked.

"Yeah, its everything that my great aunt and uncle came into contact with over the years. The Dread Doctors happened to be in there... Why? What does the book say?"

Lydia flipped it around, "In a small New England town, Teenagers are taken in the night and buried alive. Days later, they emerge transformed, wreaking havoc and spreading terror, commanded by an ancient order of Para-scientists known only as the Dread Doctors."

"That sounds vaguely familiar, doesn't it?" Allie said.

"How does it end?" Lydia asked.

"It doesn't. This is supposed to be Volume One." Malia said, leaning against her locker.

"Oh, let me guess– there is no Volume Two?" Lydia, rolled her eyes.

"I think we're living Volume Two." Malia mumbled.

Lydia looked back at the book. "Then maybe the real question is... Is this a novel or someone's prediction?"

–Devana's POV–

I rushed through the halls, looking for my dad but with the smell of the lacrosse jockeys and all the perfumes from these girls looking for action. My sniffer isn't working. I just need to relax and breath; or I'm going to freak and end up wolfing out.

I rested my palms on a locker, and took three deep breathes. "Dad... I need... to find dad..."

–With Scott and Kira–

"I don't think the Dread Doctors are the ones stealing the bodies..." Scott said, walking along side Kira.

"Are we really calling them that?" Kira sighed.

Scott grabbed her hand, spinning her around. "Think about it– they killed Tracy and walked away. They killed Lucas and walked away. Why would they leave and come back to take the bodies? Someone else has to be taking them."

"But the bodies aren't just bodies. They're... they're failures. So, if the Chimeras are all failures, what's the success going to be?" Kira asked, wide eyed.

"Bad. Probably really bad..." Scott said, before turning his head to the side.

"What's wrong?"

"I thought I smelled blood. I don't know. Maybe not."

–Devana's POV–

I started to get hot, like my temperature was getting out of control. My eyes began glowing orange. I ran into the boys locker room, making sure it was completely empty. I stripped off my clothes and turned the shower head on. Flames began to erupt from my body.

"Stop! Stop! Not here. Please not here!"

Just as the flames began to dissipate, the door to the locker room opened up. I quickly turned the water off and stayed out of sight.

"Sorry, but I'd never heard of the Kanima until a few days ago. You want me to read this?" Theo said, holding a thick booklet that Kira had printed.

"Well, not yet. I'm still on chapter one." Scott said.

"You guys do this a lot, huh?" Theo asked.

Scott looked confused, "Do what?"

"Get involved."

Scott shrugged. "Yeah, I guess..."

Theo looked at the front page

Theo looked at the front page. "What about the author? If he knew all about these guys, shouldn't we be talking to him?" he suggested.

"We thought about that, but its pretty much a dead end."

"What about this guy?" Theo pointed at the paper.

–With Malia, Lydia, and Allie–

"Why is your heart beating so fast?" Malia asked Lydia.

"Look at this. Look at the 'Acknowledgements' page." Lydia pointed out.

Malia and Allie leaned over her shoulders. Malia read aloud, "For providing scientific perspective and invaluable insight... this book is dedicated to Dr. Gabriel Valack."

"Do you know him?" Allie asked.

Lydia nodded, "Yeah. And I know where to find him."
