I look up from the banana I'm busy peeling as Aaliyah pours cereal with her back to me and continues to talk

Shawns voice suddenly sounding from behind me causes me to jump in my seat

"I should have told you to wear something big and baggy, now I'm going to be distracted all practise"

I grin at Shawns very vocal approval of my body "I wanted to look cute, I already feel insecure around your bosses wife"

"Well you don't look cute you look fuckin hot as hell"

"Shawn!!!" Aaliyah yells his name as a warning and he just laughs softly

"But why insecure of that witch?"

"Oh I don't know Shawn, maybe because she's older, taller, thinner, prettier, more sophisticated..."

"More insane"

"I'm serious!"

"Camila, I know your ex was harsh and that's knocked your confidence a little but please, don't ever let anyone make you feel like you aren't good enough. You're a beautiful girl and you're sweet and funny and you smell great"

I blush at his words as he gazes down at me and then runs the back of his fingers across my cheek and I notice a look on his face that's new, it's soft and like he's looking right into my soul and it makes my heart pound and my fingers shake but just as quickly as it appears it goes and he forces a cough before turning and grabbing his gym bag

"You two had better not be kissing!" Says Aaliyah as she appears back in the doorway with her now empty cereal bowl

"Fuck you!" Spits Shawn as he stomps from the house and I hear his car door slam shut

"What did I say?!"

I'm so shocked by his outburst I just shrug before hugging her quickly and then running out to the car, hopping in and then enduring the most awkwardly silent car ride of my life
