Author's Note: This oneshot is dedicated to my favorite coconut boy, Armin. Levi will also be involved just as much as Armin will be :) Hope you enjoy!

An evening felt like an eternity for the blonde teen as he clutched onto the metal scissors. His breathing was ragged, with slight tears coursing down his complexion. He felt isolated...alone. Throughout the night, he felt the patter of the rain as it landed against the windows of the mess hall. His comrades were elsewhere, doing their things while he excused himself.

Clutching a strand of his mildly long blonde hair, he shut his eyes before placing it between the metal blades. Then, he closed it, effectively cutting a strand of his hair. It wasn't the first cut he did, many pieces of blonde hair were scattered all around the boy as he attempted to muffle his cries.

"No..." Armin mumbled, closing his eyes as he held the scissors weakly. He supported his head with his hands as he leaned down, clutching his knees close to him as he sat alone upon the stool. "Why can't I do it?" he choked out lightly.

The sounds of shuffling had caught your ears when you passed the mess hall to clean up some rooms. You walked up to the door, listening in if anyone was there. When you heard sniffling and choked cries, you began to grow worried for whoever was in there. So you slowly turned the knob and walked in. The sight before you broke your heart- Armin was simply wrapping himself into a ball as he sat upon the stool, with clusters of his hair around him.

Slowly walking up to the shaking teen, you gently wrapped your arms around his shoulders. At the sudden feeling of someone holding him, he stopped his cries and released his form. You unwrapped yourself and smiled warmly at him.

"C-Captain?" he choked out, lips forming a frown. Your eyebrows furrowed.

"Armin, are you alright?" you cautiously asked. He looked into your eyes before looking down at the object that he was clutching.

"I-...no..." he answered. You looked at him before you lifted his chin up, keeping his gaze towards you.

"Want to talk about it?" you offered, speaking in a gentle and kind tone. He hesitated before nodding, shifting slightly and heaving a heavy sigh.

"I-" you cut him off when you tenderly wiped away a tear that was forming in his eyes. You looked warmly at him, which caused him to feel slightly better. Knowing that despite his breakdown just a while ago, he had someone who could help him now. "I-I wanted to cut my h-hair but I couldn't."

You brought a hand up, running it through his messed-up hair that he had fatally attempted to cut. Some strands were shorter, past his ears, while others were long, looking lopsided and mattered. You pushed past a part of his hair that covered his forehead upwards, letting it remain there so you could entirely see his face.

"Why is that Armin?" voice lacing with softness. He hitched his breath before continuing.

"I-It made me feel...feel..." he weakly responded, trailing off. You figured that perhaps he wasn't ready to talk much about it yet, though, nonetheless, you'd stay here with him till he's ready. Leaving him was not an option in your book. You leaned forward and placed a tender kiss on his forehead, enacting as though you were reassuring your child that he'd be alright after a fall.

Armin's eyes widened at such an affection, having forgotten what it felt like to have ever experienced such a gesture ever since he lost his family. He whimpered lightly before you pulled away, grazing over the spot you kissed and looking back into his eyes.

"I'll wait for you" you said. He breathed in before continuing, feeling slightly calmer.

"It made me feel weak, like I-I'm hiding behind something..." he answered. "I felt like, with how long this hair of mine is, no matter what I do, I'll also be a shadow of something..." he looked away. "Maybe my own confidence..."
