Author's Note: Happy Birthday to our most beloved Corporal, Levi Ackerman! <3
Winter came rounding the corner as if it had been tired of hiding until it was found in a game of hide and seek with the seasons. Winter came crashing down like a giant hurling mass of weight onto everyone when the first glisten of a snowflake had fallen on the lands.
Though, it was heavenly. It had marked the time of rest, as the titans were less active and responsive towards the blistering bites of the cold. It also meant a small break for those who've dedicated their hearts to humanity- a relief to their inner fear of what laid ahead of the comfort of the walls. Truth be told, it was a time to celebrate.
But as much as you wanted to take a break, a matter had to be taken care of. It was your duty as Captain and beside you was the Corporal, tapping his quill from one part of the map to another.
"Are we going to these uncharted parts?" You asked, referring to the blank spaces the map had yet to depict. "There must be a reason for its existence on here, unless it's just there."
His eyes glanced towards you for a moment and looked back, pointing towards an area that was relatively far from headquarters, but was guaranteed to have less percentage in casualties. "We should explore here since the route's safer and have more coverage. It'll also be to our advantage with these accessible points to hook onto. Not to mention a town located there, we may find something useful."
You nodded, leaning back to stretch since you've been standing ever since five in the morning. It was seven thirty now. Your lips were dry as much as Levi's, both being heavily indulged in deciding when the next expedition would take place and where it would be.
The ravenette noticed your slight fatigue, getting up from his seat and offering the chair to you for the tenth time. "I'm alright, I can stand." However, as you said it, you slumped forward and had almost hit the table if it weren't for Levi catching you in his arms. "Sorry, I guess I'm really tired" you said, pulling back.
"Tch" he scoffed, but his heart knew well of the reason. Guilty, he took your hand and let you fall into his chair. "If I had been more mindful of your rest, you wouldn't have been so tired." His voice was filled with worry, as he's always been whenever it concerned you.
Hearing those words, your eyes widened slightly, and reaching, you cupped his face- the cold tips of your finger against his skin. He caught his breath, surprised but not afraid. "I was the one who insisted to help you, there's no need for you apologize for something that I asked you to do for me" you assured, your voice soft and gentle.
He understood, for now, that it was fine. He didn't need to guilt himself into believing everything was his fault, as he had always thought it to be from the people who threw rotten garbage at him and the profanities that flew from their lips.
Grateful, he took your hand, sighing softly. "It's cold, would you like something to warm yourself up?"
Your heart fluttered from his offer. "A chance to drink your infamous tea? Who would dare refuse?" You smiled.
What that fucking smile does to me, he thought.
He pulled away, leaving your hand desiring his touch again and again, like a cloud chasing the stars until it was only a faded memory left in the sky.
When he left, you looked out the window, admiring the world as snow fell gently around headquarters. It was Christmas, actually, a time of year for gifts and close connections. And for you, especially for you, it would be your time to gift Levi something you had been saving up for for a while now.
Levi hadn't mind that you gifted him a pair of mittens and a pair of pants years ago, since anything from you was all he could ever want. But to you, he deserved something greater, something that would scream at his face that you loved him. But what? You had a while to think about it, and now you knew.
