"This is Levi, he'll be your personal knight, but consider him as your friend as well," your father, the King of Paradis announced as he introduced you to the young boy.
He had raven hair and his eyes seemed a little dull, on the side where he lacked sleep and his face didn't seem all that welcoming to anyone. However, you found this boy intriguing, much to your delight, you were happy to make a friend. Smiling happily, you gently held your hand out, asking that he shook it. "Nice to meet you! I'm (Y/N)" you happily said.
Levi looked at you, and then he looked at your father. Your father looked down at the boy and nodded, nudging that he went to shake your hand. Hesitantly, he reached for your hand, and you quickly noticed how it was covered in many cuts, bruises, and scars. You furrowed your brows, your expression changing as you tenderly held his hand. You brushed your hand over them, examining the wounds. Some seemed fresh, catching your attention.
You looked up at the boy, and he seemed startled by your tender and kind gesture. "What are you doing?" he inquired, but he didn't pull away.
"Well these look bad, so I thought I could take a look at them," you said, turning his hand. When you figured out how to take care of his wounds, you looked at your father. "May I?"
Your father smiled faintly, proud to hear his daughter's interest in the medical field. He nodded and quickly retrieved back a small basket of medical equipment. He would've loved to stay longer, but he had duties to attend to, thus, he ruffled your hair and bid you farewell- nodding to Levi on his way out.
You brought your knight to your room, making him sit on your bed while you sat on his other side. You took the needed ointments and tools out and began working on the wounds. Levi looked at your concentrated eyes, your tongue poking out slightly as you worked. It seemed odd to him, to see someone so focused on helping him. Why would anyone want to help a weak boy like himself? He was skinny, ugly, dirty too, so how would anyone want to help someone like him? The people he used to live with, resided with couldn't care less if he had died, so what was happening to him?
Once you finished, you nodded affirmatively, proud of your work, but a little disappointed. "The bandages aren't tight enough, but I can't seem to find the best way to fix it" you said as you packed the things up. "I hope it heals soon, I'll work hard and study hard to become a medical nurse."
"Why?" he asked out of curiosity. "I thought princesses didn't need to work or do a lot, that's what I've been told from where I lived."
You blinked a few times, and analyzing your knight a little more, you noticed how different he seemed. "Well, it's true that a princess doesn't need to work a lot, or even have to lift a finger. But, my father has always told me that we should always help others, and that's what I want to do!" you happily said. You got off your bed and searched for a wooden sword your friend Hanji had made for you. "I want to protect the people I care about! That's what I want to do, and even if people see me as a princess, if I can help others, it's enough for me."
Levi watched in amazement, hearing such kind and generous words from someone he's been told would never care about peasants and weaklings like him, he saw you differently. "I believe in you then," he said, getting off the bed. He went and took your wooden sword, brushing his hands over the well-crafted piece. "I'll become a knight, a strong one so I can protect you, princess," he said confidently.
You chuckled. "That's very sweet of you, now tell me, how did father find you? I haven't seen you before and I've walked around the kingdom for such a long time, I would've noticed someone with such raven hair and peculiar eyes."
"Your father found me in the Undergrounds, a place where our people are subjected to harsh conditions and outcasted" he explained. When he looked into your eyes, you were devasted to hear such things. "When your father had heard about the place, he couldn't believe that such a thing existed without his knowledge, so he sent his men to take over the land and free the people. He happened to stumble upon me as I sat alone, but when he looked at me, he told me that he saw some type of potential in me. I'm not sure what it is but..." he looked at the sword, clutching it tightly before looking at you. "I feel like my goal is to protect you."
