A Passing Hope (Levi x Reader)

The stones have withered as the people have grown old through the years of seclusion behind the walls. Vines protruded out the cracks, and pieces of stone debris above the soils of growth; no one has seen the lonely souls of caged birds within the prison of fear. Like hell has bounded them and trapped them to consume their lives until they're nothing but fragments of forgotten memory.

Memories are essential to keep those souls alive; blissful hope no matter the denial to accept fate in the hands of the titans. If they pray, if they hoped, if they wished, upon a star, perhaps they'd be spared a few more days. But not even that could be a desire or a promise.

For you, the present mattered more than what was done in the past. The present shaped the future, but because you may not have a future, living life to the fullest like the endless craters on the moon mattered to you more than anything.

Taking a risk, the only chance you could before it may be your last breath, you walked up to your Corporal. Despite being just a rank lower and working every day with him to take care of the cadets, it wasn't as easy as you thought to begin a conversation with the man without stumbling over your words.

If you could count the number of times you did, and they fell out your lips, all you could see and would only see, were black and white.

You steadied your breathing, urging yourself not to fret and worry so much. With that out of the way, you offered if he'd like to see a shooting star with you, held at your favorite spot atop the wall.

You took notice of his skepticism, eyes peering around to confirm if you were asking him. After a moment of self-doubt, he sipped his tea in contemplation. "I would love to."

A smile so swift was painted on your face, unable to contain your giddiness. "Then I'll meet you outside your office at 10 pm sharp! Oh, if you'd like, I could bring us some of your favorite tea again- if you're still thirsty. I also made some treats for the occasion! I didn't know if you'd actually agree but I'm glad you did! I wouldn't have to waste..." You stopped yourself when you realized you were going on a rant as if your life had depended on it.

Levi heard you laughing nervously, and knowing you for so long, way longer than the years he'd spent looking after the cadets with you, he knew you and your antics. All of you, but your feelings for him.

Taking notice that there wasn't anyone around, he lifted his hand up and patted your head. Widened eyes met him in an instant, surprised but also pleased to receive such an affection from him.

With a slight smile on his face, "I'll meet you by my office, (Y/N)."

-----

Your foot found no home on the wooden floor below you as it nervously tapped its surface and your hands found their way to twist and turn against each other. To say you were just nervous was an understatement because you planned to confess tonight. And even if it didn't go as how you would've loved it to go, you would never stop loving him.

As your eyes diverted to your shifting feet, back rested against his mahogany door, you waited for him, to feel his beautiful soul once more.

On the other hand, Levi stood just behind the door, his hands within his cape that symbolized his service to humanity. He held his breath, taking the moment to think back to when you had asked him. He was skeptical that you had asked him specifically because he knew that there were better people to ask than some stoic, aloof, and blunt man like him.

Though that didn't mean he'd decline the offer if you did. If it was you, then he'd say yes a thousand times over till he forgot how to count to a thousand and only to the numbers of infinity.
