Author's Note: Spoilers for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations! This oneshot is inspired by the scene where Sasuke makes a ring for Sakura. I thought it was such a cute moment that I had to recreate it with our favorite Corporal!
The wind that passed his hair was cold and quick, as the wagon continued to shake with each passing rock it rolled over. The sun had just begun to set and the expedition was coming to a close, just in time before the Titans could pose any further threat to the soldiers.
Levi, who amongst them all was regarded the strongest, hell, Humanity's Strongest, had unfortunately sustained an injury on his abdomen.
It was a blow to his title, and he denied that it was anything severe, until Erwin had assessed the injury and suggested that he take it easy.
Rendering him with no other options, Levi relented and sat in the wooden wagon, seated between two other soldiers who had injuries far beyond his own.
His grey eyes soon made out the sight of the withered walls that had been the source of their long-lasting protection. Vines covered the edges and seeped through its cracks, representing its cycle of life.
Levi had found it disheartening to see, as it only meant their eternal struggle to escape the grasp of the man-eating beasts. And not even the likes of the greatest and strongest like him could change the present for a better future.
Upon arriving back at headquarters, he hissed under his breath, trying to compose himself as appearing weak in front of others was a solemn rule he had made. In doing so, he was regarded as less important to be dealt with in comparison to those who had lost their arm or leg.
While that wasn't much of an issue, what was was that he wouldn't be able to see you. The events leading to his injury, of the titan that grasped him, its grotesque mouth and all, it was moments like those that he feared he wouldn't be able to see you again and he needed so desperately to, but he couldn't. You were busy.
"Jesus!" A familiar voice cried out.
Levi turned to see shittyglasses startled, evident by her backing away. "Tch, what are you screaming about?"
She gulped, gesturing towards the visible blood stain on his uniform. "We've got to check you in!" Insisting that a nurse immediately tend to him, one fortunately did but to his dismay, it wasn't you. After Hanji made sure that Levi was getting treated, she informed him to head to the mess hall for dinner.
"I don't need it, I have work to do right after," he said, dismissing her.
Hanji sighed and placed her hands on her hips, shaking her head disappointingly. "That won't do you any good, and though I hate to say this, (Y/N) would want you to eat something, anything." Her eyes loomed over to you, currently stitching up a man's shoulder with precision. "You know how she is."
Grumbling, his hand rested lightly over his abdomen, sighing lowly under his breath. "Just get out of my sight. I've seen you one too many times today."
Rolling her eyes, she stretched her back before adjusting her goggles. "Well then, I'll see you later," but she encouraged him once more before leaving.
Levi shifted his eyes to you, admiring the way you carried the room with grace that he felt as if his presence alone would make you fall. He didn't want to be a burden to you, so perhaps you not having seen his injury was a good thing. You wouldn't have to worry about him.
Feeling a sudden pang in his stomach, he pressed his bandaged wound lightly and left the medical ward. Slow and quiet, no one had missed his presence walking out the door.
Meanwhile, you had just finished tending to the latest batch of injured soldiers. The fear that radiated off of them was reflected by your sweat, your short breaths, and your tired arms. It was gruesome work, but the relief and relaxed features that dawned upon their faces when you finished were well worth the effort.
