From your window, you could see the imposing might of the walls. They had been there for as long as you could remember. Never once have they gotten any smaller. It was wishful thinking to believe it could happen, for it would never come to fruition.

A bird, greyish in color flew across the sky, cutting the air as it soared higher than the walls. They could see the vast expanse of land. Their songs could reach the heavens, and carry their magnificent melodies across the world. They were free. They were...

You caught yourself before slipping into another episode of unforgivable thoughts. It seemed like a lost cause because the more you tried to think of the possibility of leaving those withered walls, caging your existence with its enormity, you realized with disappointment that even if you had left, the danger on the other side was another story in its own right.

You let out a deep sigh, leaning back against your chair. You were running on two hours of sleep, a number rivaling the Corporal's. The thought had brought a small smile to spread across your lips, the skin around your eyes folding just a bit before you leaned forward. There was work you had to do, no doubt, and lounging around, moping like an immature child, was no way to be productive.

Rummaging through your load of paperwork in the morning, you tried to focus and concentrate on the words written in black. However, it grew to become a far greater challenge, especially since the accident.

Your fingers grazed over the smooth surface of the bandage, a stinging feeling surging on the left side of your face. It happened a week ago, and while Hanji thought it would be a good idea to call you and Levi, "twins," in terms of your acquired injuries being similar to each other, it didn't really help you settle into this new life. You often wondered what you had done to the world to receive such a grave punishment.

But thinking hurt a lot, so you didn't dwell on the matter and decided to return to your paperwork- well, you would've had it not been for the knocks on your door.

The pattern was familiar, the timing was right. It had to be him.

"Come in," you said, stealing a quick glance his way when the man entered your office, a cold demeanor about him that, too, rivaled your own.

"You look sick" he commented with a hint of concern.

You scoffed, eyeing him as he sat in one of your chairs from across your desk. "It's funny to hear it from someone who sleeps less than me, not to mention our 'matching' eyes." The ravenette had let out a low scoff as well, or perhaps it was a small chuckle if you had paid any close attention. "Anyway, what brings you here to my lovely abode?"

"I'd hardly call this home," he remarked, crossing his arms. The folds of his jacket tightened. Was he tense? What for? You wondered. "Shittyglasses wanted me to come fetch you for something, though I couldn't bother recalling what it was for."

You pressed your lips together, setting your quill down. You could always rely on Levi to put a smile on your face. His bluntness was one of the many things you loved about him, and so far, it had brought an undeniable glow to your otherwise dampened morning. "Well, then I better not keep her waiting."
