"Shh, what was that!" Jimin held a small finger up to the air in front of them.

Jungkook shrugged, glancing around. "I only hear the water."

They had just crossed the river bridge, now attempting to follow its waters east where they'd hopefully find Taehyung and Jisoo. The bridge was still in their sight.

"I hear..." Jimin didn't need to finish, for the rumbling earth spoke for him. They scrambled to duck low, into what little cover the dead winter brush would give them. Foreign Soldiers erupted from the other side of the bridge where they had just come from, though the soldiers seemed to just materialize out of the trees from all directions. They watched as the soldiers fanned out, scattering in the cover of the nearby trees again and under the bridge, a few coming this way.

Jimin braced himself on Jungkook's arm, a tight grip to prepare himself for whatever was to come, holding his breath and closing his eyes until the sound of hooves went quieter.

"Are they gone?"

A moment later, he felt a hand on his shoulder, bruising grip. "Ah!" He flinched and let out a light squeal, twisting his head around to see the potential attacker.

"Shhh... it's just us."

Jimin's eyes softened at the sight of Taehyung.

Taehyung nodded with a smile. "We heard them. There's a few scattered everywhere. It's like they've breached from the inside out. It started north, but spread quickly like a plague from the coasts and now a few have made it south."

"Seems that way," Jungkook added, earning a blank look from Taehyung.

Jisoo cleared her throat and nudged Taehyung. "Yeah. We killed two on our way down the river. Looks like you two are alright, though. Thankfully."

'More or less,' Jungkook thought, about to say it aloud jokingly, when he caught a glimpse of Jimin, his face screwing up in despair for the millionth time that day, just before he could hide his face from the others.

The sight pained Jungkook. His heart ached for him in the form of his own tears brimming. "Hyung...I know..." he slid next to him, draping an arm over the back of his neck and pulling him closer.
