Lizzie pov
"Hello?" I asked into the phone, not knowing who it was.
I got a big wave of tiredness before I got in the shower. So I made my way over to my bed and fell back asleep. I now realise that I actually slept through the night by accident.
"Jesus woman. I could have been dead for all you knew, but you wouldn't because you don't fucking answer your phone." Landon playfully shouted down the line.
"I'm sorry. You disturbed me from a very great sleep so if you don't mind telling me the reason for it, that'd be great." I shot back as I stretched on the bed, causing my bones to crack.
"You need to be down here for twelve because that's when Jaden'll be here to go over the song." He answered. It's only seven.
"Ugh fine. Give me a few hours." I mumbled.
"You still need to shower don't you?" He asked in a monotonous voice.
"Uh, don't fucking judge me. I was tired." I shot back.
"Okay fine. I'll see you soon Liza."
"I can practically hear your eyes roll. Bye Land." I laughed as I hung up the phone.
I groaned and dragged my ass out of the bed, slowly making my way over to the bathroom. I looked in the mirror and realised at how much of a rats nest my hair resembled. I took it out of the hair band, stripped from my clothes and hopped under the water.
"Hey Marley." I smiled as I walked into his room. No matter how many times you try, he's not going to answer you.
I rolled my eyes and walked over to his closet. I wanted to wear one of his jerseys. He used to always let me wear them around school before we dropped out. Being head of the football team and part of the basketball team he used to get a lot of jerseys. He only played for them to avoid home.
I took out the first one I saw. My breath hitched as I saw what one it was. It had his name and his number written across the back and just his number in the front. Ridgeway 24. It was the basketball jersey he had one when our team won the finals. I remember going to that game and thinking we weren't going to win.
Flashback
"I don't think they're going to win." I said as I turned to Landon at half time. We were down by almost sixty points.
We're a good team, but the guys were up against one of the best school teams in the state. They play dirty and that's how they've managed to get such a lead on us.
"Have some faith little Lizzie. If they just pass the ball to Marley and Samuel, we'll win pretty easily. Come on let's go see him." He said as we made our way down to the bench Marley had sat on.
"Aye, it's old man Marley." I shouted out, catching his attention.
"Well if it isn't Lizzie. Who would've known you'd be here?" He teased as he wrapped his arm around me.
"First off, ew you're so sweaty. And second off, I drove you here dumbass." I laughed as he did too.
"What up man?" He smiled to Landon as they did their little bro hug thing.
"Just watching you guys get your asses handed to you. I mean come on, if these idiots would just pass to you or Sam, they'd soon realise we could be winning right now." He answered.
"Ayo, that's what I've been saying man. They just won't listen. Harry is gonna talk to them and hopefully make them see some fucking sense." He laughed.
That's one thing that annoys me about Marley sometimes. He's too cocky for his own good. It's nice to know he's confident in himself, but to others from the outside looking in, it seems he's just a cocky bastard. Nothing else. Which is the complete opposite of him.
The buzzer had rang, which signalled that the teams had a two minute huddle before the second half started. Marley spoke to the coach and he allowed for Landon and I to stay down on the floor with them. After two minutes, the buzzer had sounded again, and the second half of the game had begun.
"Come on Ridgeway." We both shouted as the players took their positions.
By the time there was a minute or so left, the game was tied. The other team was in possession of the ball and we were scrambling to get it off them. We were desperate to bring a win home this year and we're destined to get it.
With thirty seconds left, the ball had made it into Samuels hands. He was on the opposite end of the court and had maximum twenty six seconds to get it across and score. Or he could risk it and pass to Marley and have him run it down.
Which is exactly what he did. He passed it to Marley after doing a three point pivot. Marley caught it and ran down the line and made way to just in front of the three point arc. There was only ten seconds left so he didn't have time to calculate his shot. He took a gamble and jumped. The entire room fell almost deadly silent, the only thing being heard was the squeak of his shoes as he collided with the floor. We all watched intently as the ball danced around the rim before falling straight through the net.
With only three seconds left of the game, and knowing the other team couldn't even touch it before the buzzer, our entire team ruptured into roars and cheers as they bombarded Marley. He ran over to Landon and I as the buzzer sounded and he was finally freed from the pile of boys on the court.
"You did it 24." We shouted as we engulfed him in a group hug.
Flash back over
I found myself stood in the same place, looking down at the jersey as tears pooled from my eyes. I quickly put it on and walked out of his room.
"I need to get high."
