Liza pov
"...okay forget me too." I sang as the beat came to a halt.
The light on the booth turned off and I knew that I could now talk, knowing that it wasn't recording.
"You did so good. One take baby, let's go." Colson cheered as he opened the door.
He walked over, picking me up and spinning me around as he cheered. We didn't have a lot of time to get this song finished before his album dropped and so he was stressed it was going to take so many takes to finish. Luckily for us, I learnt the rhythm and tempo pretty fast and so he didn't have to worry.
I laughed as he put me down and walked back over to Travis. Landon had walked into the recording booth and walked over to me.
"Killing it again Miss Popstar. You got any new songs to do?" He asked a she hugged me.
"Well, let me show you something really quick. I wrote two new songs and I kinda wanna sing them, but I want to know what you think first." I answered as I opened my song book and flicked through to the right page.
"What are the names?" He asked as I handed him the book.
"The first one is Ilomilo and the second one is Everything I Wanted. You'll figure out what they're talking about pretty quickly." I answered as he nodded and read through the lyrics I scribbled down.
"Is this for who I think it's for?" He asked as he looked up at me.
"It's for Marley." I answered as he nodded.
Marley was our other best friend. He was such a happy person, and I was utterly in love with him. He had a really bad home life, and you would often find him staying with me at my apartment or with Landon and Travis. He was one of the best people you could've ever met, and upon first glance, you wouldn't notice anything was wrong. Even when you got to know him a little more, you wouldn't know anything was wrong.
The only way we knew something was wrong was because we were too late. I was out partying one night when Landon had called me, telling me he found Marley.
Flash back (2 years ago)
I felt my phone going off. I had just finished a shot gunning competition with Billy and I walked outside to get away from it all. I pulled my phone and saw that Landon was calling me.
"Hey Hoe." I slurred as I answered.
"Lize, you need to sober the fuck up and get to the hospital." He rushed out as his voice broke.
"What? Why?" I asked as I stood up straight and made my way to the gate.
I decided to just go out the back way instead of having to push a bunch of people. I had my phone and keys, I didn't need my wallet, I could easily replace the money and all my cards were at home.
"I found Marley, and he wasn't in the way we wanted him, and now I'm really worried. I need you to hurry." He sobbed as I felt my eyes start to sting.
"Okay, I'll be there as soon as I can." I said as I got in my car.
"Please be careful."
"Always baby, always." We always call each other babe or baby, it's just our friendship.
He hung up the phone and I drove as fast as I could to the hospital. I wasn't drunk, but I knew that if I got pulled over, I would definitely get a ticket and quite possibly arrested.
I managed to get to the hospital pretty quickly and without getting pulled over. I parked my car and ran to where Landon told me he was.
"Bub." I shouted as I saw him pacing.
His head snapped up to the direction of my voice, and I saw his face. I ran up to him and engulfed him in a hug as he cried into my shoulder.
"How is he? Do you know?" I asked him.
"N-no. They aren't telling me anything. I'm not family so they won't let me." He sobbed as he gripped into me tighter.
"Come with me." I pulled away and held onto his hand. "Excuse me?" I said to the man sat behind the counter.
"Yes?"
"Can you tell me what room Marley Ridgeway is in please?" I asked as I sniffled a little.
"What's your relation to him?" He asked me as he typed into the computer.
"Adopted sister. This is my boyfriend." I said as I held up our linked hands to him, desperately hoping he'd believe me.
"He's in room 219." He answered as he pointed to the hallway we needed to go down. I sighed in relief as we quickly made our way to the room.
When we walked in, Marley was hooked up to so many machines. He could barely keep his eyes open and he looked really weak. I felt the tears start to drop as I looked at him.
"I think you guys should start saying your goodbyes. There isn't much more we can do to keep him here. I am very sorry." A nurse said before he walked out, taking a clipboard with him and shutting the doors.
"Oh Marley, baby. Why?" I sobbed as I walked closer to him.
"I'm sorry baby Lize, I couldn't handle it anymore. I didn't want to handle it anymore. I felt useless and stupid and un-needed. It made me wonder why I was here. This feels right." He struggled out.
"No Marley. If I could change your view on the impact you have on us, you wouldn't do this." Landon said as he walked over behind me.
"I'm sorry guys. I really am. But this is what I've wanted ever since I was 14. I'm finally happy again. Thank you guys, you kept me here a lot longer than I expected. I'll always be thankful for the two guardian angels god gave me, but now it's time for me to leave. Don't miss me too much." He laughed out as he rested his head back.
His eyes closed as his breathing slowed.
"No, no, no, no. Marley, no. Please don't shut your eyes. Come on, open them baby. You're supposed to grow old with me, with us. We had so many things planned for our future. Come on Marley, open your eyes." I cried and shouted as his body remained motionless.
The room fell silent for a few minutes. I watched as his chest stopped rising and falling as his breathing stopped. I felt my heart completely break in two as the monitor continued to sound, and the line went flat. I turned around and wrapped my arms around Landon as we both fell to the floor.
"Please don't. Don't say it's true Lize. Please tell me he's gonna wake up." He sobbed as he held onto me tightly.
"I really wish I could baby. I really wish I fucking could." I cried back.
Flashback over
"So? What do you think?" I asked him as he looked up at me with glossy eyes.
"I think he'd love it Liza." He smiled as he shut the book.
"Are you okay if I record it? I've used your words and I don't want to use them if you aren't okay with it." I cleared.
"Of course I'm okay with it. If he was here he'd be jumping for joy. You should record them. Like right now." He smiled as he brought me into a hug.
"I will. Of course I will." I smiled back as I wrapped my arms around his body and sniffled a few times.
