Liza pov
There was an awful amount of white noise looming in my ear. I groaned and held my head as I sat up, looking around for wherever that noise was coming from.
Looking around for noticed no one in the room. I was cold and my mind was still a bit dazed. I just needed someone to hug me. I felt cold and slow and everything echoed.
"Hey Liz." Now I know why it's so cold in here.
"M-Marley?" My lip trembled as I lifted myself from the bed, walking over to my old lover.
"Hi baby." He smiled as I wrapped my arms around him tightly.
"God Mar, you're freezing." I shivered as I rested my head on his shoulder.
"I know. I'm sorry sweetheart." My heart swells. I loved it when he called me that.
The white noise in the back of my head was slowly making its way round. Right the way round until it was front and centre, nearly drowning everything out.
"Can you hear it too Marley?" I asked him, pulling away to look into his eyes.
His eyes. They don't hold life anymore. Fuck I miss looking into them. We could sit there for hours, not saying a single word but just staring into each other's eyes.
"Hear what Lizzie?" He asked, tucking a piece of hair behind my ear.
"The white noise. The high pitch buzzing. It's playing right next to my ear, but I can't figure out where it's coming from." I explained, still looking around for its source.
"No. That's not going to go away I'm afraid. I heard it too, for a short while." He explained, bringing me to lie back down on the bed as he sat down on the chair next to me.
"What is it? Wait you heard it too? Where's it coming from? Oh Marley, please tell me." I begged as he chuckled and grabbed a hold of one of my hands.
"I see you're still as curious as ever." He mused, a specific nostalgia in his voice. "You're in a temporary coma Liza. The ringing in your ear means you're still alive. I heard it for a few seconds." He explained, running his fingers over my knuckles.
"Is that why you're so cold? Because you're not actually with me?" I asked, feeling my lip tremble a little.
"No. I am here with you. I can touch you and you can touch me and you can hear me. But when your body wakes up, we go to two different places. You go home and I'll stay here. And then it will be until we meet again. My love." He answered.
"Wait, so I have to leave you? But I just got you back. Please Marley, don't make me leave." I cried as the realisation hit that he isn't going back with me.
"I'm sorry Liz. But Landon needs you. Jaden needs you. Travis and Col need you. They all need you more than you need me right now. I wish there was a way around it. But there isn't." He sighed. That's how I knew it was killing him too.
"What's it like here Marley? What's it like living life through someone else's eyes?" I queried, looking up at the ceilings.
"I don't live life through someone else's eyes. I live life by your side. Everywhere you go, I'm there too. I see you all the time. Next time, just remember that I'm next to you, not above you. The king never strays too far away from his queen." He half smiled as he looked up at me with his big eyes. His Queen.
And just like that. I was falling again. Falling into his eyes again. But I couldn't fall into a trance. No. The loud beeping that covered the white noise gained all my attention in an instant. Please don't.
"It's getting louder isn't it? The beeping. You can hear the monitor can't you?" I could feel a lump forming in my throat the more he spoke.
"Why did you have to do it Marley? Why did you have to leave us? Leave me? I thought you were happy. Didn't I make you happy?" My words were salty as the tears fell down faster and faster.
"You did make me happy Lizzie. You made me happier than ever, but it wasn't enough for me. While you made me ten times happier, almost in an instant, my demons took that and multiplied by a thousand. I couldn't cope with it. But I promise I'll see you soon." I watched as he stood up and pushed me to lay down.
"No wait. Stop." I tried to protest as he laid his lips on mine.
"I love you Liza."
"Please don't." I cried, allowing him to kiss me.
"Wake up Liza."
My body shot straight up as the tears rushed down my face. I was warm. There were other people here in the room with me. I could feel the bed sheets, I could hear the monitor.
"Thank fucking god Liza. You scared us." Landon cried as he wrapped his arms around me.
"No. Take me back. Put me back. Please I want to got back." I cried into his shoulder.
"Liza. You died. You were dead for a good five minutes. W-we thought you weren't going to wake up. And you want to go back?" Jaden asked in disbelief, lines of tears obvious on his face.
"Landon I saw him. I was with him. Please put me back. He was there. I could hug him, I could talk to him. It was too short, please take me back." I rushed, gripping his shirt so tight I almost ripped it.
"What the fuck is she talking about?" Another voice asked from the corner of the room. Colson?
"Marley. She's talking about Marley. She saw him when her heart stopped and it wasn't long enough. She wanted more time with him." He answered, mainly talking into my hair.
"Please." I cried out.
I kinda felt bad for him at this moment. My heart hurt so bad I was just letting my emotions pour out. Loudly apparently because of how much my throat hurt when I did it.
"I'm begging you. Just let me go home." I whispered.
