Olivia's eyes are swollen. It is obvious that she just cried.
She clenches her jaws when she sees me: "Lexie Gomez. Were you the one who rescued Ethan at the lake that year?"
"Yes, what about that?" I answer her without thinking much, but then I realize something.
I once overheard Olivia and Thomas's conversation. Thomas said that Ethan wanted to marry Olivia was because she once saved his life. Did Olivia go to the lake after I left that day and pretended she saved him?
Oh my God, if this is really what happened, then everything could be explained. That's also why Ethan would appear at River Town along with Jen and Olivia.
"So it's you! You were the reason why Ethan called off our engagement! You bitch!" Olivia yells angrily.
"Oh, so you were pretending you saved him all this time? Oh, Olivia. Why are you mad when I'm not even mad? You stole all these. You don't deserve these." I laugh coldly.
  I see a shadow approaching.
Maybe this is my chance. I squint my eyes.
"Things that don't belong to you, will never belong to you. This is what you deserve, Olivia." I continue to anger her. "Mom cheated on Dad for wealth, and look where that got you guys."
"Why? Why could you live a happy and wealthy life while our life is so poor? We're both his daughters, how could he do that?" Olivia's face scrunches together.
"Dad has seen through the greed you guys got."
"To hell with you, Lexie Gomez, I'm telling you, Dad is the one to blame! If he would let me stay that day and become the second young mistress of the Gomez family, I would never have to trick you into having sex with Ethan and threaten Dad with it. You deserve all that! And I would get to be with Ethan!"
"Oh." I smile: "You're at a clear disadvantage then. Ethan Hayes is a lot richer than our family. You've come so far to pretend you saved his life and got his trust, but now you gave that away yourself. What a pity."
"You're the one to blame. You didn't know Aunt Perkins's son true self. I'm so sorry, he went easy on me on our first time." I add.
"You bitch!" she yells and lifts her hand to slap me.
But her hand is grabbed by someone else.
She turns and her face falls when she sees it's Ethan.
"Ethan... I..." she stutters as tears start flowing: "Ethan, I do love you. I can't live without you! I'd make amends for everything I did..."
Ethan shoves her hand away, his face upset.
I thought he'd yell at her, but he keeps quiet.
He just says calmly: "I've transferred the money into your account. You won't have to worry about that anymore. Get lost."
Olivia can only leave unhappily. But her expressions tell me she is not going to let this go easily. She'd come back for sure.
Ethan is also exceptionally calm. Is it because Olivia is here?
The atmosphere is even awkward when we are the only ones left.
I guess he understands the truth now. I didn't go to bed with him on purpose that night and I never meant to snatch my sister's boyfriend.
The wind blows on my long hair.
He finally says something after a while: "Was that true? About what you said about me going easy on you?"
  I blush all over.
  I feel upset.
  What's the use now?
  It's all too late.
I'm already his sister in law.
  "It's late. Go home."
He says, and turns to leave.
I am left alone in the cold wind. I watch him go and feels sad.
