“I-I’m sorry.”
Agad akong kumuha ng napkin at pinunasan ang sarili ko. Hindi ko maiwasang mapangiti habang humihingi ng paumanhin.
Matapos ang dinner ay sabay-sabay kaming lumabas.
“Don’t worry guys. You don’t have to pay. Everything is on me. I already paid for it,” aroganteng saad ni Aubrey.
Tila nagliwanag naman ang mukha nang lahat. Masaya ang lahat habang binabagtas ang daan palabas nang bigla kaming harangin ng isang staff. Base sa suot niyang name plate, siya ang manager dito.
“I am sorry ma’am, but we can’t let you go unless you pay your bill,” magalang na saad nito.
Napapahiyang tumigin si Aubrey sa lahat habang bakas naman ang pag-aalala sa mukha ng ilan.
“My credit card is not with me right now, I don’t even have enough cash right now,” mahinang bulong ng isang babae sa kaibigan niya.
“Same. Akala ko ba nabayaran niya?” taas-kilay na tugon ng kaibigan.
Lumapit si Aubrey sa waiter.
“W-What do you mean? Mr. Janssen already paid for it. Do you even know him?!” may diing saad ni Aubrey.
Palihim na tumaas ang kilay ko. She talked too much earlier when she was expecting someone to pay for her bill.
Ngumiti naman ang manager, “Of course. He is my boss.”
“Exactly! At binayaran na niya ang lahat.”
Aubrey seemed desperate right now.
“I’m sorry to tell you but we didn’t receive any notice from him. So, you have to pay your bill, Ma’am,” the manager said calmly.
Aubrey bit her bottom lip. Pinagtitinginan na rin kami ng mga tao sa paligid. Ipinapahiya lang niya ang sarili kung igigiit pa rin niya ang lahat.
“H-How much is it?”
“220,998.99 pesos, Ma’am–”
“What?! Bakit ang mahal?!” galit na bulalas ni Aubrey.
“You took a VIP room and the food you ordered was personally cooked by the head chief.”
“Miss, can we pay later? I have cash here but not enough for the bill,” ani Vanna, “We promise to pay you.”
The manager was about to reply when a staff came closer to her and whispered something. She then looked at me. Muli rin niyang itinuon ang tingin kay Aubrey makalipas ang ilang saglit.
“I apologize for this inconvenience. It seems like everything is fine now. The bill is already paid by someone.”
Nagliwanag naman ang mukha ng lahat sa narinig.
“S-See?! Sa susunod kasi i-check niyo muna!” pagalit na saad ni Aubrey.
The manager bowed at her before she walked closer to me and greeted me, “Good evening, ma’am. I am so sorry if I didn’t recognize you.”
Kalmado naman akong tumango habang nagwawala sa tuwa ang isipan ko. Lucas, how could you humiliate my future sister-in-law?
“A-Anong nangyayari? Do you know her?” naguguluhang tanong ni Aubrey.
Tumango sa kaniya ang Manager bago tugunin si Aubrey.
“It would be a shame if I didn’t know the owner of this place.”
