KABANATA XXXVI
[JIRSTEN MYLES]
Matapos ang mahaba-habang byahe ay lumapag ang eroplano namin ng alas-otso ng umaga. Pagbaba naman namin sa eroplano ay sinalubong kami nina Skylar at Aaron. Skylar was so happy that she almost kissed me on the lips. Aaron just laughed at his soon-to-be wife.
We went to a resort hotel where the wedding would be held. Sinabi ko naman sa kaniya kaagad na gusto kong magpahinga muna dahil hindi ako nakatulog sa loob ng eroplano. Nagising kasi si Kyllian nang hating gabi at hindi na dinalaw ulit ng antok hanggang mag-alas-tres ng madaling araw.
Skylar stayed in our room for the day. We watched Disney movies after I took a nap, and played with Kyllian.
The next day, naging busy na naman sila sa pag-aasikaso ng nalalapit nilang kasal. I wore a semi-formal sky-blue dress for the bridal luncheon. It was a party where the bride thanked and expressed her gratitude to everyone who was going to be part of her wedding. Her family, bridesmaids, maid of honor, friends, and everyone on the brideʼs side who was involved in her wedding were there to witness her speech.
Habang nag-aayos ako ay napatingin ako sa pinto nang marinig ang sunod-sunod na katok. Agad ko naman itong pinagbuksan.
“Hey,” natutuwang bungad ni Dein.
Napangiti naman ako nang makita siya.
“Hi.”
He hugged me as I hugged him back.
“I couldnʼt see you yesterday. Ayaw kong sirain ang gabi niyo ni Sky.”
“You made a good choice,” biro ko.
He pulled away and laughed softly.
“You look beautiful,” aniya nang mapansin ang suot ko.
Nakatali ang buhok ng pang-low bun. Long sleeve silk dress na square neckline ang style ng damit ko.
“Thanks.”
“Where is baby Kyel?” pag-ibaba niya ng usapan.
“Playing inside,” aniko.
“Can I come in?” tanong niya.
“Yeah. Sure.”
Pumasok kami sa loob. Nakipaglaro naman siya kay Kyel habang ipinagpatuloy ko ang pagmi-make up ko.
Dein and I became closer after I linked to Skylar. He was also studying in Denmark years ago. Business ang natapos niya. He was a good-looking guy, 180 centimeters tall, had thick eyebrows, and had monolid eyes because of their Korean blood.
I glanced at my phone. Skylar asked me to get her parcel on the ground floor. Iniwan daw ng delivery guy sa receiption. Sinabi ko naman kay Dein na bantayan muna si Kyel.
“Sure, babe.”
I just smiled at him. Dein was sometimes flirtatious to every girl he met. Siya iyong klase ng taong lalandi pero hindi magseseryoso. Hinahayaan ko na lang siya. It was not because I liked him romantically, but because he would not be interested in me.
He was in love with someone else. She was his tutor before. Just the typical love story, they fell in love with each other. Hindi iyon nagustuhan ng pamilya nina Dein dahil limang taon ang agwat ng babae sa kaniya. Sa huli ay iniwan siya ng babae nang wala man lang closure. As a result, Dein could not move on even after years. He was still waiting for their closure until now.
Iniwan ko sila sa silid at nagtungo sa baba. Itinanong ko sa receptionist ang parcel ngunit sabi niya ay may kumuha na raw dito.
I called Skylar and walked toward the elevator.
