KABANATA XXXVIII

[JIRSTEN MYLES]

He looked so miserable after I told him the truth. I could feel my hands trembling. I clenched my fist and hid it behind my back. I looked at him coldly to hide my emotions.

He shook his head again and spoke, “Youʼre lying again. If he is not my son, then where is my son?

I did not bear your child. I was never pregnant while we were together,” giit ko pa.

Muli siyang umiling. He was panting, and I understood why. I would act the same way if I was in his position.

“Gem, this canʼt be true. He has no reason to lie,” halos pabulong na niyang sabi.

“Owen, go home for now. Ask whoever told you if he was really saying the truth.

Iʼm having an anxiety.

“And Kyllian, just pretend you donʼt know him. H-He is supposed to be someone who never exist in your life. No one will ever tell him the truth. I will be his mother, and you will be just stranger for the rest of his life.

“Goodbye, Owen.”

Tinalikuran ko siya at isinara ang pinto. He did not do nor say anything. He was just left devastated and broken.

“L-Lucas,” I called him between my breaths.

“What happened?” he worriedly asked.

“Y-You told me he would never know my past. Y-You told me... Lucas, h-he knew...”

Nagsimulang tumulo ang mga luha ko.

“Luna, breathe. Breathe, Luna. Take a deep breathe,” utos niya sa akin nang mapansin ang kakaibang paghinga ko.

He knew I was having a panic attack. Ginawa ko naman ang sinabi niya.

“And breathe out.”

I exhaled after a long deep breathe.

“Are you okay now?” muling tanong niya.

“Y-Yes,” nanghihinang tugon ko.

“You donʼt have to worry. I will assure you that he wonʼt bother you ever again. Do you understand?”

Tumango naman ako.

“Now, did you bring your medicine?”

“Yeah...”
