❝we didn't want to get older❞

BILLY'S CAR SPED THROUGH THE STREETS OF HAWKINS AS HIS MUSIC WAS PLAYING AT FULL BLAST. The loudness of it made heads turn, as they were probably enjoying a peaceful walk until they heard distant music, that went as quickly as it came.
The speed caused Lila's hair to slightly fly back as the window had been rolled down a little when they entered the heart of Hawkins.
Billy had decided to pull into Hawkins High as he didn't want to drive to the middle school and back. Him being extra, decided to rev the engine an extra time before shutting it off, alerting everyone of their presence.
As they got out of the car, she felt everyone's eyes on them, as they had not been seen around Hawkins before. She was about to walk away as Max had already skated away when Billy's voice stopped her.
"Lila. Good day." He wished her, before walking towards the high school. She merely nodded before making her way towards hers too.
The wait in the reception before being sent to their class was tedious, to say the least. Lila didn't want to talk to Max, and her frown and narrowed eyes made that painfully obvious.
The suffocating silence was broken when the principal came, and led them to their classroom, where he had introduced the teacher as Mr Clarke.
Lila was about to make her way to her seat, where max was already doing so, but were stopped when Mr Clarke held his hand out. She could already tell that he was one of the over-enthusiastic teachers on a Monday.
"All right, hold up. You don't get away that easy. Come on up. Don't be shy. Dustin, drum roll."
Max went back to where she was previously standing, and a curly-haired boy who was sitting at the front closed his book, and began a drum roll.
"Class, please welcome, all the way from sunny California, the latest passengers to join us on our curiosity voyage, Maxine and Lilian!" She visibly cringed at the full name.
"Lila. Its just Lila."
"Sorry?"
"Nobody calls me Lilian, its just Lila." What she did not see, was a dark-skinned boy whispering her arcade username to his friends.
"Well, all aboard, Lila, and I'm guessing, Max?" He guessed, to which she nodded. They took seats at the back, to which Lila's was a few seats across from Max's.
She glanced around the classroom, taking in its scenery. It was very, vibrant. Her eye caught four boys which were staring at her, and she lifted an eyebrow.
