THE GIRLS HAD STOPPED AT THE HARGROVE-MAYFIELD RESIDENCE FOR THE NIGHT. Considering that there was a thunderstorm, and that it was dark outside, it wasn't safe for them to do anything more. Plus, they felt like they deserved a break. While Lila went back to her bedroom to 'sleep', the other two stayed up to read comics.
"Which one?" Max asked, showing Wonder Woman and Green Lantern.
"I don't know." El replied, climbing into bed.
Max put the two comics down. "Hey, there's nothing to worry about anymore, okay?"
"It doesn't make sense."
"What doesn't make sense?" Max questioned.
"Heather. Lila. The blood. The ice. In there, she told me to help her."
"Heather had a fever, so she took a cold bath, but she's better now. That has to be it." Max explained. "I don't know where the blood came from, but... we saw her. We both saw her, she's totally fine. As for Lila, we don't know what it means. We probably just have to keep an eye out for her, like, tomorrow."
"What about Billy?" El mumbled. At Max's forwardly tilted head, she elaborated. "He seemed wrong."
The ginger chuckled. "Wrong is kind of like his default. But it's nice to know he's not a murderer, because that would have totally sucked."
El gave her a forced smile. She looked at the Wonder Woman comic, before reaching out for it. "Who... is that?"
"See, this is why you can't just hang out with Mike all the time." Max picked it up and opened it. "This is Wonder Woman. AKA Princess Diana. She's from Paradise Island, which is like this hidden island where there are only women amazon warriors."
The thunder rumbled as Max continued to explain it to El.
While the two girls thought Lila was sleeping, she had actually left her home, to go to the Steel Works. Yet again, this would soon be something she would forget, but certain words would bring these memories back.
Lila, Billy, Heather and Stacey walked towards where Tom and Janet Holloway, and Cynthia Albright were. They had woken up.
"Hi daddy." Heather bent down and removed the cloth around his mouth, as so did Stacey for her mother. Immediately, the two started trying to get them to stop what was happening.
"Heather... sweetie..." Tom called out for her. Lila stood back, watching the encounter happen. She wished her parents cared for her that much. "Whatever this is, whatever he's got you into, you don't have to do this." He looked at Lila, remembering some of the dinners they had when she had been dragged to the Holloway residence. "As for you, I don't know if it's a family thing but... you can stop this."
"There is no stopping it." Lila simply answered. Tom gasped as cold sweats ran down his face.
"You'll see." Heather added. She put her palm on his cheek, running her thumb along it as she got up.
Janet's sobs got louder, and she whimpered as she tried to move away from Lila, who had now kneeled next to her. The older woman's mascara was smudged underneath her eyes.
As the younger girl had slowly removed it, Janet had already started to call out before she had even let go. "Heather! Please, Heather!"
Her cries were shushed by Lila who placed a finger over her lips. "Try not to move. It'll hurt less."
She got up, glancing towards Stacey's mother who had been silent the whole time. She was watching the encounter, her face pale and hands shaking while they were tied. Easily enough, she opened her mouth, but couldn't get any words out. The four turned away, exiting through the steps in sync, as if it had been rehearsed.
"Heather!" Tom shouted, as if it would bring her back. The three adults heads turned as the sound of a creature snarling became louder. It roared while approaching them.
Cynthia wiggled in her ropes, trying to find a way out, but that was practically impossible. "What the-" She was cut off when it extended a hand, shoving it down her throat. Her eyes widened at the act as she was unable to breathe, or move.
Janet screamed, watching her get flayed. Heavy footsteps echoed through the place as the Mind Flayer came into view. The married couples' screams were cut off as it did the same thing to them too, left unconscious until they weren't.
