❝I feel like prey❞

LILA WAS IN A RUSH TO FINISH THE BANNER'S DRAWING. She wanted it to be neat, but also perfect. Plus, finished in under five minutes. Which all came under the category of impossible. Today, Dustin was returning from his Camp-something. Honestly, she forgot what it was called. So, she just called it 'Camp-nothing.'
They were rushing around, making sure that it didn't look as if anyone had been in his house since he left, which wasn't that big of a deal since he had been gone for like, a month.
When she heard the Henderson's car pulling into the driveway, she alerted the others, and they scrambled into position, making sure that it would be out of sight for Dustin. Lila and Will were right next to each other, and they held hands, once again going noticed by more than one person.
The plan was to get El to control Dustin's toys. They had to persuade Hopper to let her out of the cabin, which for once, went well. Surprisingly. His robot-like toys would lead him to the living room, where they would sneak out behind him. Following that, they would surprise him, and he would give them all a teddy bear hug. A warm hug.
Except, the last part didn't go as planned. It ended with Dustin spraying Lucas directly in the eyes with his Farrah Fawcett Hair Spray. So much for a warm hug.
The red-headed girl went to help the soon-to-be-blind boy wash out the hair spray from his eyes. While they did that, Dustin showed the four his creation from camp. To be honest, she didn't really care, but because he was away for so long, she acted like she did.
She zoned out repeatedly through his speech, yet tuned in at random times. "This baby carries a crystal-clear connection over vast distances. I'm talking North Pole to South. I can talk to my girlfriend whenever and wherever I choose." That got her full attention. The four glanced at each other, in shock.
"Girlfriend?"
"That's so cool! What's her name?" Lila asked in shock.
"Suzie!"
"Susan? Oh my gosh! Are you dating my step-mom? When can we meet her?" Will knocked her knee, as if trying to get her to shut up.
"Right now."
Lila glanced at her watch. She had promised Billy that she would help him run an errand at four. She didn't know exactly how to crack the news without causing anyone to be upset.
"Yeah about that I might have to rain check." Looking up, she only caught a little of Dustin's smile falling. "I promised Billy that I would do something for him, because you know, work."
