THE NEXT DAY, LILA HAD ARRIVED SLIGHTLY LATER THAN MAX DUE TO HER SLOW WALK. She heard the faint echo of Mike's voice, and was about to start in that direction when she heard someone else's calling for her.
"Lila!" She turned to find Dustin running up to her. "Hey!"
"Hi." She monotonously replied, and the two walked towards the voices.
"Stop being a baby and do it already!"
"This is so disgusting. Is this really necessary?"
"What the hell is going on?" Dustin asked, taking the words out of Lila's mouth.
"What do you think? We're looking for Dart!" Mike deadpanned. Dustin's jaw seemed to slightly drop at this, as if he was hiding something that only he knew. Lila took notice of this, but did not question it, or at least not in front of everyone.
She turned to face the rest, slightly surprised when she only found Max, no Will nor Lucas. As if on cue, a rubbish bag came flying out of the bin. This was unexpected for the four, as their similar yet different reactions all consisted of some sort of disgust.
The foul stench quickly reached their nose, Lila scrunched hers. A few seconds following the bag, there was grunting from inside the large bin and Lucas jumped out. He seemed disgusted and unpleased.
"Well, well, well. Look who finally decided to show up. After I drew the short straw. Real convenient."
"You stink!" Max moved to beside Dustin and Lila, away from Lucas.
"Hi, Max." Dustin said.
"Hi." She replied.
"Where's Will?" He asked, to everyone in particular.
"He'll be here." Mike answered.
"Are you just gonna stand there?" Lucas threw Dustin a stick, "Or you gonna help?" They started poking the bin in hopes of finding Dart, oblivious to where he was currently residing in Dustin's home.
Due to the fact that he had not thrown Lila a stick, she folded her arms and watched in amusement as the four poked the bin repeatedly.
As they filed into the science room, she sat in her usual seat, waiting for the lesson to start. Turns out they were learning about human responses to danger.
