❝i didn't cry when you left at first
but now that you're dead it hurts❞
-daddy issues, the neighbourhood
AFTER THE INCIDENT AT THE ARCADE, LILA HAD RETIRED TO HER BED FOR THE DAY, LETTING BOREDOM EAT HER ALIVE. Useless, everything and everyone was useless to her. She had only wanted an hour to play dig dug, preferably switching with Max, then Lucas came in with his story which she couldn't resist to hear, as truths were needed.
Unfortunately, Lucas' story had taken the full hour to tell, and she couldn't even place a hand on the game controls before her hour was up. This greatly upset her, it was not how she expected her weekend to go. If anything, she imagined it to be much better than this, yet when has optimism ever helped her?
The only reasonable answer was helping her to feel disappointed.
For example, she had optimism regarding her mother. When she was young, she had believed that she had only left for a hotel trip, yet days and weeks passed. Lila had not understood the severity of the situation until she listened in on Billy making a phone call, asking her to come back.
His demands had not helped, though. He was about twelve at the time, yet it was such a distressing experience they had gone through.
Years later, she had finally understood what exactly was happening. It was not an easy realisation she went through. Max did not understand her problems; her mom had always been there for her, so her only option to seek comfort in was Billy. At first, the decision seemed abysmal, yet he eventually warmed up to her.
Unfortunately for her, the pair nonverbally agreed to not speak about it again unless it was of most importance.
Which brought her to the current moment, laying down on her bed, facing the plain ceiling. To Lila, it felt as if the need of alleviation was steadily making its way back to her, awaiting her most vulnerable point before striking to add to the mix.
Her attempt to concentrate her racing thoughts also added to the bunch of things that had not worked out for her today. The sound of rock music filled her ears as Billy, in the living room, started to work out, lifting weights.
It was only about half of a minute before the sound of the doorbell started, too. Yet, she did not hear that one.
Unluckily for the boy at the door, Billy Hargrove did. He continued, ignoring it. Though, it did not stop. "Max, are you getting that or what?"
