WHEN LILA HARGROVE USED TO THINK HER LIFE WAS AT THE LOWEST POINT IT COULD GO, SHE'D TRULY UNDERESTIMATED THE POWER OF THE UNIVERSE. Since the horrible day of 1985 and the even worse day when she'd woken up, her life just seemed to be constantly going lower and lower. At this point, she'd tried to think pessimistically. If she expected disappointment then she wouldn't be disappointed. Since getting back up on her feet again, Lila thought about the possibility of breaking her leg again many times and re-hospitalising herself.

Lila had three problems: school, school, and school. If you counted her 'father', she'd have more than ten.

High school wasn't something to mess around with. Yet she did anyway, for the sake of life and living it. Lila couldn't live in her own house anyway. For starters, the social hierarchy had gotten bigger and worse. The people who played sports like basketball (cough, Lucas), usually found themselves easily sitting at the top. If she were to become a cheerleader (which she'd rather die than do; Lila never wanted to do little tumbles in a short skirt) then she would find herself slowly climbing up, surpassing the unfortunate like the members of the Hellfire Club or other loners.

Lila didn't exactly know where she sat on that pyramid, nor did she care. She had cared a lot less since being discharged from the hospital last year. It almost got her put back in there, but at least a small smile crept up on to her lips for once. (A once in a blue moon thing.) In high school, she'd found a friend. By friend (singular), she meant the one person she cared about the most, because they related a lot. Even if they didn't talk outside of school.

At least she wasn't at the bottom, like Mike or Dustin. She no longer wanted to associate themselves with them for many reasons. One of them being their devil-like cult. The other being her and Billy dragged into their bull that resulted in her having missing memories and something else that must not be mentioned.

Fingers clicking in her face brought her back to reality. "Hello? Lila?" The school counsellor chuckled nervously after gaining her full attention. "You seem to be zoning out a lot. In lessons. . . here. . ."

"Sorry, what did you say?" Lila thought if she answered her questions — lies or not — then she'd get out quicker.

"I asked you how you're getting on," she replied, jotting down notes on that damned clipboard.
