ALL WAS PEACEFUL AND SPEECHLESS THROUGHOUT THE HARGROVE-MAYFIELD RESIDENCE. Was, it was, as the only current people home were Lila and Billy.

Though, that number rose when Susan and Neil arrived. "Hey, guys, we're home. Guys? Hello? Max?"

She checked Max's room to find it empty, yet the curtain flew slightly as the window was open. Susan shut it closed. Sighting, the faint music from Billy's room filled her ears as she went to check Lila's.

There she was, once again, lying on her bed, listening to music on her walkman. As the door opened, the thought hit her, that she hadn't yet done her homework. Did she have homework?

She was drawn out of her thoughts as she finally registered her step-mother's presence.

Though, the staring contest that had arose was broken as Neil came in too. She took off her earphones.

"Where's your sister?" He demanded.

"What?" She didn't register his question as she had hoped.

The older man came closer to the edge of her bed, "Where is she?" This time, she had known what he was referring to. Though, she had promised to cover for her.

"I- I don't know." She half-lied, pushing her upper body off her bed, propped up by her elbows. Neil knew her by know, it had been thirteen years after all. Even if she didn't recognise her own miniature stutter, he did.

Harshly grabbing her by the lower arm, he dragged her to the living room in hopes of intimidating her, which usually worked. This time was not an exception; if there was one person she could be fully scared by, it was him. Though, she did not like to show that.

"Why don't you tell us where she is?" He ordered.

"Because I don't know where she is. If I knew, I would tell you." Technically, she wasn't lying, as she did not know her exact whereabouts.

He scoffed, "Would you? Don't think I don't know about those stupid promises or deals you girls have been making to each other lately."

Lila tensed, before stupidly saying, "You know what else is stupid? The fact that you can't comprehend anything about the phrase I don't know. Seriously, you-" The girl was forcefully cut off as she was pushed to the wall of the living room. A sharp pain shot across the base of her collar bone as a hanging glass shattered to the floor.
