DETENTION SEEMED TO BE THE SCHOOL'S IMMEDIATE ANSWER FOR ANY STUDENT THAT STEPPED A FOOT OUT OF LINE, BUT IT DIDN'T MAKE SENSE. Not every student based their lives on school, so how would wasting time benefit anyone? Plus, for Lila, it only caused a bigger interruption in her day than usual. It didn't make sense either how those favoured by the staff members could have a leg or an arm out, and no punishment would be delivered upon them. (Cough cough, Nicole Cunningham.) Heck, they could dance out of line, and they would still turn a blind eye, and say, I was dealing with your atrocious behaviour to notice him.
Her behaviour wasn't atrocious; it was purely made upon returning. Returning actions done against her. Her whole new motto since exiting the hospital seemed to be 'what goes around comes around'. Lila Hargrove didn't go around picking fights with weaker, older people. If someone shoved her with the intent of fighting, then she would return the favour. Lila didn't understand why the teachers had a problem with that. It wasn't her that picked it anyway.
Detention wasn't as bad as she expected it to be. Flynn had given a teacher the middle finger while he was berating her for harming another student, who'd given him detention too, then started on Flynn for respect. It was always respect your teachers, respect those older than you, but never anything about respecting students or the younger ones. Goodness, sometimes she wanted to rip her maths teacher's eyes out.
"Good morning, Hawkins High!" Jason Carver, the captain of the basketball team's voice boomed in their ears, through the microphone. For the past five minutes, she had been absentmindedly clapping, though she had zero support for the pep rally. At the mere sound of his voice, the audience cheered. "First off, hey. I'd like to thank each and every one of you. Without your support, we wouldn't be here. Give yourselves a big hand!"
The audience cheered and clapped for themselves, even though they had not really done anything — the team certainly could have made it without their support. It was rather about effort and talent the actual players had.
"And of course, I have to give a special shout-out to the best and prettiest fans of all time, the Tiger Cheer Squad! Chrissy. . . Chrissy, I love you, babe." Lila fake-awed to Flynn. He pinched her cheek — she slapped his hand away, daring to break into a grin. Max saw their interaction. "You know. . . I think I can speak for all of us when I say it's been a tough year for Hawkins. So much loss. Sometimes I wonder, how much loss can one community take? In dark days like this, we need something to believe in. So, last night, when we were down by ten points at half to Christian Academy, I looked at my team, and I said, think of Jack. Think of Melissa. Think of Heather. Think of Stacey. Think of Billy."
