❝sometimes the silence guides a mind❞
-sweater weather, the neighbourhood
WILL TURNED AROUND ON THE SPOT. LILA STILL LOOKED THE SAME AS TEN SECONDS AGO. He bit his lip, considering walking back to her. He could have just heard something.
All of his thoughts flipped over when he saw the twitch of her finger. He furrowed his brows, he definitely was not hallucinating. Will turned his body back to completely facing Lila, his hand no longer on the handle.
Staying completely silent, he took one step at a time. Until he was three steps left to the end of her bed. Then he saw it again. Her hand twitched the slightest. Did she? Was she awake? Is she awake?
He broke out of his trance by rushing to her bedside, pulling the chair out again. Once again, he held her uninjured arm. "Lila, can you hear me? It's me-- Will, Will Byers. Your friend, best friend. You live on Cherry Lane, Max is your sister, remember? Lila?" He stared at her unmoving body, taking all her features, as if he had not been doing that the past three months.
Lila's arm moved. Not the broken one, the one Will was holding. She gripped his hand. He gasped, and his jaw dropped. Had someone been in there with him, they would have heard the sound of Will's jaw hitting the pale white floor.
It took him a moment to process what happened. Lila, the comatose girl, had just moved. Not once, not twice, but three times. The doctor was wrong. He had to be. Seconds passed, and they turned in to minutes.
He waited for another movement from her, and her grip loosened.
It was truly a miracle. Leisurely, her eyes peeled open. Like a baby seeing for a first time. Will went easy on her, giving her time to adjust.
Until he couldn't not say anything. "Lila..?" He observed as her eyes flickered from the ceiling above to as far as they would let her see sideways. "I thought I lost you!"
"W- What?" She replied, her voice scratchy. Of course, she hadn't used it in months. It was like abandoning a house. You can't expect it to be crystal clean when you come back. Dust would eventually collect.
He knew what he had to do, Will couldn't handle her on his own. He softly placed her arm back down. "Stay here, alright?" He rushed out the room, his footsteps padding the floor. Outside, it was dead silent, Max and Steve didn't talk. They both looked up at the door bursting open suddenly.
Steve was about to crack a joke, but he noticed Will's wide eyes and stopped. "What's wrong?"
"Need a doctor." The two glanced at each other, and Will moved his hands in a rolling motion, signalling them to speed up. "Now!" Max immediately got up, scrambling to where she had last seen Dr Alinsky.
