THREE MONTHS LATER
OCTOBER 1985
"WELCOME TO HAWKINS, INDIANA, A WONDERFUL PLACE TO GROW UP, TO RAISE YOUR FAMILY, TO WALK YOUR DOG. But then... on July Fourth, everything changed. A terrible tragedy struck this small town. But this was not this small town's first brush with tragedy. Mysterious deaths, government cover-ups, a bizarre chemical leak. Is it all linked? All a vast conspiracy?"
Today was the day the Byers were leaving. It had been planned since August, and nothing had changed. Their decision stayed final.
Will wasn't necessarily content with the decision, but there was nothing he could do. Apart from his friends, he had nothing to stay for. Hawkins now reminded him of his fates, his failures, and where everything went wrong. Not his childhood, not where he met the best friends of his life, or the biggest crush he had ever had.
Speaking of crushes-- Lila Hargrove. Since that fateful night on July 4, she had been transferred into Hawkins Memorial Hospital in hopes that she would wake up. But she didn't, she hadn't. Not yet.
The Hospital had been reformed and re-staffed pretty quickly, so quickly in fact that it seemed too good to be true. Probably all the job losses from the Mall 'burning down'.
Before he left, he wanted to visit there one last time. Joyce had granted his wish, as she understood his pain. They had understood each other's pain.
Hopper had disappeared that night in the Russian base, and he hadn't been sighted since, so everyone rumoured him to be dead. Even they believed it too. Even Joyce believed it. Joyce was no stranger to loss. She had lost Lonnie, and she never wanted him back. Bob and Hopper however, were different stories that she couldn't even get into.
Will tuned out the news on the tv, not wanting to be reminded of it. As he walked into the hospital, the woman at the front desk sighed. They had seen each other multiple times within the past few months, enough to call him a regular. She sighed out of pity, but also a 'you here again?'
