I'm scanning the documents that my boss has given me when my phone buzzes in my pocket. I take it out and check the message. It's from Matt.
"Hey babe, hope you're having a good weekend." There's also a photo attached to the message. It's a group photo with him, Pete, Tom, and some girl. I have never seen this girl in my life. Her costume seems to perfectly match the rest of the guys' and my mind starts to fire off.
Who is she? Has she been at Pete's house while Matt and them were making costumes? Is Matt cheating on me? I don't even know how to respond to the message because I feel like if I do, I am just going to lose it on him, and not only will it not solve anything in this precise moment, but I am also at work event.
I close my phone and try to forget about the photo for now. Luckily, as I am putting my phone in my pocket, my boss comes over.
"All set?" he asks.
"Got it," I reply.
"Great. Let me introduce you to everyone."He brings me over to a group of people. They are all dressed to the nines in suits and gowns, and I feel slightly frumpy in my cocktail dress. But everyone is really gracious and kind, so I try my best to blend in.
As my boss talks to some of the partners, I make small talk with their companions. Every so often, my boss asks me to hand him a document, and since I was able to glance at them before, it is relatively easy.
The night seems to pass by rather quickly, now that I am busy taking care of work stuff.
