If there was one thing about the 939 specimens that was well known, it was that they could shape their voices into whatever they wanted, often for imitation. Not even voice recognition technology could tell the difference. It was definitely terrifying if utilized correctly, being able to lure the unaware straight into a 939's jaws. More trained or simply talented individuals could speak in echoing, static-filled, or even multiple overlapping voices at once, making it great for intimidation. Others could throw their voices, leading victims (or pursuers) on wild goose chases and sometimes into traps.
It was a versatile ability that could be adapted to almost any situation, to lure and attack or defend and protect, and could be a fearsome and deadly tool in the right hands.
Eddie used it to be an annoying, chaotic little sh*t.
Dr. Collingwood froze as Eddie repeated what she'd just said to Dr. Buck... in her voice.
"Never do that again!" she said in alarm.
Eddie grinned. "Never do that again!" he parroted, her voice still coming out of his jaws.
"Eddie, shut up!"
"Eddie, shut up!"
"It's not funny!"
"It's not funny!"
"Eddie! Stop that right now!"
"Eddie! Stop that right now!"
Dr. Buck cut in. "Eddie, shut your toothy jaws before I flip the table."
Eddie returned to his normal voice, laughing at the mischief he made. "Alright, fine."
However, it wasn't always that easy.
One day Dr. Logan was ranting again, and the SCPs had the bad luck to not only be the target of his rant, but also be physically there to hear it.
He was going on and on, insulting Billy, berating John, and implying that Bloodfang's misdeeds made the 939 brothers monsters. John looked like he was about to cry.
Then Eddie began to talk in Dr. Logan's voice. Or, more accurately, a high-pitched, whiny parody of it.
"My legal name is Bearded Bastard, but I yell at people when they call me that because I'm too ashamed to admit that it's the truth. I'm so insecure about myself that I tear other people down in order to feel like I have any self-worth at all. I'm not racist, 'cause I hate everyone equally, it's just that I'm so much of a coward that I only really show it to people I don't consider human."
Eddie went on and on and on, poking fun at Dr. Logan's heartlessness and mocking his views on anything or anyone with an SCP designation.
Eventually Dr. Logan snapped and shouted, "JOHN IS A WORTHLESS MONSTER! WHY ELSE WOULD THE O-5'S APPROVE MY PROPOSAL TO THROW HIM INTO THE SUN?!"
Eddie went quiet. Everyone froze. It was so silent, you could have heard the sound of a wasp's footsteps.
Dr. Collingwood's heart was beating so hard that she was sure everyone in the room could hear it.
Oh no. Oh no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t-
Simon let out a roar. "SO YOU WERE THE IDIOT WHO DECIDED TO THROW HIM INTO THE SUN!"
Eddie bared the hundreds of needle-like teeth in his jaws and a feral growl pulsed in his blood-red throat.
Billy let out a blood-freezing shriek as his eye turned from crystal blue to violent crimson. He bent down, seemingly so that he could wind up to spring, but he never got the chance.
A flash of white crossed the room and something hit Billy in the side of the head with the force of a high-caliber bullet. The pissed sloth collapsed limply to the floor.
Eddie seemed to suddenly fly though the air, but not in a straight line and not at Dr. Logan. He crashed into Simon and both lay still on the ground.
John hauled Billy up on one shoulder, put Simon and Eddie on the other, and carried them away. Charlie slowly paced after him, his head lowered in shame.
Dr. Buck shook her head. "Dr. Logan, come to my office later."
