Dr. Collingwood fought down the urge to scream. Her teeth felt like they would shatter at any moment. It was agonizing. She pulled her glasses off, tucked them into her pocket, and buried her face in her hands. She could hear Lawrence charge over from the other side of the room.

"What happened?"

"I-I-I don't know! My hand I guess just kinda brushed her foot! I-It was an accident!"

She opened her eyes just a little, just enough for her to see Eddie cowering in shame, his tail between his legs.

John grappled Abel and the two rolled back and forth on the ground, slamming into the walls, shattering everything around them, clawing at each other. Abel had managed to pull his fingers out of their sockets a few times, but he always set them back quickly.

Abel pulled a massive black sword out of... well, nothing, like he always did, when something large and hefty slammed into him from behind. Billy dragged his claws across Abel's back and gouged his eyes out. Abel tried to blindly swing at Billy, but the sloth ducked underneath the weapon and punched Abel under the jaw hard enough to send him flying across the room. Billy's fur was still brown, but his eyes were pitch-black with tiny red pupils. His body seemed to "glitch" into a black-furred, vaguely sloth-shaped mass every once in a while.

John pounced on Abel while he was still trying to get up, grabbed his head, and, using more strength than he'd ever had to use before, tore it off.

Abel's lifeless body collapsed to the ground and crumbled to dust. So did his head in John's hands.

John burst into the room.

"Is Molly alright?"

His eyes darted around the room. She was nowhere to be seen.

Lawrence sighed. "She got taken to the infirmary."

Billy muttered something under his breath. John paced about the room.

"No, no, no, if only I ran faster, I-I could've saved her-"

Billy grabbed his shoulder and turned John to face him.

"John, stop. Listen to me. I know that this might be a little harsh, especially for someone like you, but the truth is, you can't save everyone."
