"Hey, Lawrence, is Dr. Collingwood okay?" John folded and unfolded a piece of paper into bizarre shapes, trying to distract himself from the fallout of the last containment breach.

Lawrence sighed. He seemed close to tears. "She's fine. Director Jones said that he's sending her home so that she can recover without risk of... you know."

"Can we say goodbye to her?" Billy asked hopefully.

"I... don't... know..."

"I tried asking as nicely as possible," said Eddie. "They said none of us are allowed in."

"I'll say goodbye to her for you," Lawrence offered.

Charlie nodded. Simon grumbled, but agreed.

"Who's gonna drive her home then? I'm pretty sure that people with broken bones shouldn't drive," Charlie asked quietly.

"My shift today wouldn't allow me to, so Dr. Buck volunteered."

Eddie growled. "She's finally doing something nice, eh? Took her long enough."

-----------------------------------

Dr. Collingwood balanced awkwardly on her crutches. She'd need surgery on her leg to screw the shattered bone back together. It still hurt with a dull ache whenever she tried to walk around. Once they were both in the car Dr. Collingwood turned to stare out the window.

Dr. Buck glanced at the rearview mirror. Dr. Collingwood looked more somber than usual and just a little bit tired. She stopped at an intersection and turned to her.

"Dr. Collingwood?"

"Hm?"

"How are you feeling?"

"Fine, I guess. Well, about as fine as someone can feel when they've just had their leg shattered and went through surgery to pull it back together." Dr. Collingwood pulled off her glasses and rubbed her eyes.

Dr. Buck noticed the traffic light change from red to green and turned back to the road.

The rest of the way home was silent. Dr. Buck glanced at her every so often, but stayed quiet. Dr. Collingwood didn't mind.

Finally they were at her house. Dr. Buck helped her out of the car.

"Thanks for driving me home."

Dr. Buck nodded, but didn't reply. She looked genuinely upset.

She watched grimly as Dr. Buck drove away, then turned and pulled her keys out of her pocket.
