"Shit." Shane exclaimed.
"What?" I asked taking my headphones out.
He didn't reply he just pulled over as a cop car pulled up behind us.
Shit I thought in my head. How much better can my night get.
"Just what I needed a ticket when I had to pick up my brother because he had a bitch fit. Gotta love how wonderful my life is." My brother said with this venomous tone. Doesn't he realize there is more to life than hate?
"License and registration." The cop asked as Shane rolled down his window.
"Yeah, one sec." Shane replied while opening the glove box.
"Where are you boys off too at this time of night?" The cop asked us while he waited for Shane to finishing fishing around the glove box.
"We're going home," I replied, "We were supposed to be home a couple hours ago, but I got tied up in a personal affair."
"Ahh, I see. Do you realize how fast you were going?" He asked Shane as he pulled out some miscellaneous pieces of paper.
"55 on a 45 because like my brother said we were supposed to be home a couple hours ago officer." Shane did not like cops, or as he called them. Pigs.
"It's night time, so you should be going 40. Since you live around here you should know deer like to roam around at night. Don't need to be calling your parents, or a tow truck at this time of night." He replied in the same tone.
"Understandable and next time we will be doing that officer. We were just caught up in a rush to get home. You know. Need to get back home before they worry." I said trying to calm these two down.
"I guess I can just let you boys off with a warning. I understand the situation. I was your age once." He replied with a smile. It's as if knew we were already having a rough night. "Just take it easy on the gas pedal okay son?"
"I can do that." Shane replied with a sigh of relief.
"Have a good night." The officer said as he stood up away from the window.
"You do too." I called out. As Shane was rolling up the window I said, "Nobody gets that lucky."
"Yeah, well I do." Shane replied.
He can be such an ass.
Driving down the road I realized how beautiful the night is. How the stars shining clearly through the rain clouds, the mist covering the road, and how the roads glistened with the fresh rain fall. I rolled down the window to let in the smell of countryside. I liked how renewing it made me feel. Made me feel like I could start over, like nobody can own me, but yet I didn't want to start over. And I did want somebody to own me. Eventually I'll feel complete. It just won't be anytime soon.
The thoughts vanished as we pulled up the driveway. And they ended when we got out of the car and slammed the doors. New thoughts came into my mind as we snuck into the house. Such as am I going to lie, or tell the truth why we are so late. And if they are still up how am I going to get to my room, so I don't have to deal with their questions? Those thoughts cleared my mind as I opened their door and I heard their snoring.
"We're home." I whispered.
"Okay." My dad replied sleepily, "See you in the morning."
"Yep, see you." I said, "Good night." And with that I shut his door.
"Good night Shane." I said as I patted his back.
"Whatever. Good night." He said as he slammed his door.
I went into my bedroom and took off my clothes. Put on some shorts and sat on my bed. I love how I had a window with a view of the farm. I could see the stars still shining clearly through the rain clouds. And I could 'Sunset Hill' where we walk up to watch the sunrise or sunset. I could also see the animals who are now in the assorted barns, or sheds where they were sleeping.
"Good night." I said quietly and with that I settled underneath the covers and closed my eyes.
