"Where are we?" I asked as we pulled in front of the local bar.
"Eric's." Shane replied nonchalantly.
"Eric lives in a bar?" I said in a sarcastic tone.
"No, he lives in the apartments next to the bar smart one." Shane said through gritted teeth. He hates it when I get catty, but then again. Who likes it when someone gets up in your face about a place you've never been to before.
Shane opened the door to the place and a narrow staircase led up to a door that said 911 on it. James and Mopey prodded me to follow my brother up the stairs, but I felt so hesitant. What have I gotten myself into?
"Come on bro don't back out now. We wanted an adventure and got one." James said in a hushed tone.
"Yeah, just go. If you want to leave it's only a fifteen minute walk to my place." Mopey pressed in reassuringly.
"Alright" I said giving up and started up the stairs. A dog was barking and running around at the top. Just as my face reached the bottom of the door the dog appeared a licked my face.
"WHOA." I shouted as I fell backwards. Mopey caught me as I was about to tumble to my death. Such a tall staircase for one flat I thought to myself.
"SWEET DEE!" A girl's voice yelled. "COME HERE." She demanded. Then I saw a hand reach for the collar and pull the drooling dog away as she was yipping. Obviously a lover of any stranger Sweet Dee fought to get to me and the boys as we made it up the last bit of the stairs.
"Katie?" I said in shock. "Is that you!?"
"SAM!" She exclaimed with joy and started to chuckle as Sweet Dee plowed over James.
"How have you been? What have you been up too?!" I asked in a rush.
"So you know my girlfriend?" A tall blond guy that shared a crazy resemblance to Kurt Cobain inquired.
"Kurt Cobain!?" Mopey's jaw was to the ground in awe.
"Oh my God no way this is not real! What are you doing alive!?" James joined in covering his mouth as he was clear fan-boying over their new discovery.
"No my name is Eric..." The Cobain look alike just stared at Mopey with a look that looked half pissed half flattered.
"I'm sorry we're just fans of Kurt and you look a lot like him." James said trying to recover what they had left of their first impression.
"It's alright I get a lot. Just don't do it again. It gets annoying after the first thousand times.
"Won't do it again Kur-"
"Eric. Promise." James immediately cut off Mopey before they ticked him off anymore.
"Sammy!" Katie shouted and hugged me trying to make this really awkward introduction get back on track.
"Katie!!" I shouted back and hugged her tighter.
"So Eric this is my brother Sam and my bro's James and Mopey. As you have met." Shane said in his 'Imma dude, dude" tone.
"So I've experienced. Katie how do you know Sam?" Eric asked inquisitively with one eyebrow up and the other down.
Wow he's really hot I thought to myself. Whoa. Stop. Not this again. Dammit.
"High school. We went to Greenville together and he's an amazing singer." She said with a huge grin.
"Really?" He said and a smirk appeared on his slightly scruffy face.
"I guess you could say that." I said starting to blush.
"Here we go again." Shane said.
"Do you want to hear him?" James ungracefully jumped into the conversation. "Do you have a guitar? We can play for you." He said really excitedly.
You see James and I are what you call passionate musicians who love the spotlight. And we take any moment to perform for anyone.
"Yeah, I would. Here." Eric said as he took up his Telecaster and handed it to James.
As James was tuning the guitar Shane was eyeballing James and I with a look that could freeze even the ice queen. I just tried to ignore him as I was informing Katie on everything that happened.
"Wow, Alex sounds like a douche bag." She said as she embraced me in a hug.
"It's alright. Things will get better. At least someone is faring better than me with a real hunk of a man." I said signaling towards him.
"Oh him. Yeah, you could say I got lucky." She said blushing.
"Lucky? More like clearly blessed." I said smiling. Gosh why does God do this to me? I thought to myself.
"Sam get in here!" James yelled.
"Coming!!" I shouted back. "Here we go!" I said excitedly.
"I haven't heard you in forever!" Katie replied grinning. "I can't wait to hear you now."
"What do you want to sing?" James asked.
"The Only Exception please." I said confidently.
"Good choice Paramore." Eric said with a half-smile.
As the guitar started playing I kept staring at Eric's smile.
"Gosh, that smile... STOP. Oh my gosh I hate myself right now. Oh my gosh I'm supposed to sing."
"When I was younger saw, my daddy cry, and curse at the wind.
He broke his own heart as I watched he tried to reassemble it.
My Momma swore she would never let herself forget
And that was the day I promised I would never sing of love if it did not exist.
But darling you are the only exception
You are the only exception..."
"Stop." Eric interrupted. "We need to talk. You and me. Downstairs. Now."
Oh. Shit.
