Kore

A loud organ plays in the distance as the deities gather in the great hall for the union and coronation of Eris into the underworld.

Eris fumbles with the lace of her dress before yelling at a few servants to answer her beck and call.

"You ready?" I felt Eris gulp as I adjusted the train of her lace black dress. She lifts her eyes to the mirror, inspecting her reflection for any imperfections. I could tell she was nervous about the day ahead.

She had no reason to worry.
Actually? She did.
Today my plan would come to fruition, as long as the three fates kept their word.

"Isn't this a pretty sight" I hum, leaning my head against her shoulder. "The goddess of discourse looks nervous"

"Me? Nervous?" she scoffs at the ludicrous thought. She pushed her veil behind her forehead before leading my head off her shoulder.

"You're face says otherwise" I giggle beneath a knowing breath. She pushes me out the way before peaking through the slit of the iron door. The mumbles and hushed whispers of the deities provoked a storm of worry in her soul.

"They will never see me as their Queen. I am here...because..." her voice trailed off. I walk over to meet her and push a palm against the iron doors, closing the small slit that exposed us to the outside world.

"Because of what you did to Kore" Her head snaps in my direction, her eyes shook violently as she heard my reminder.

"We BOTH agreed to end Kore's life. Don't put this on me Hera" she seethed, pushing me out her way.

"Yet, she is still alive" I cursed, staring at my reflection from across the room. I was trying to make sure I heard the confession from her mouth. She refused to admit it every time I asked her.

Before she had a chance to respond, a heavy knock vibrated against the door.

"Eris. They are ready for you" Zeus's voice rang.

"I guess duty calls your majesty" I mocked her title with flair. She glared at me before looking into the mirror once more.

"I need a moment" she whispered, gently tapping a finger against her cheek. I nodded, slipping through the doors and leaving her be.

——

"How's our blushing bride?" Zeus followed me at my heel as I walked past the corridor.

"You would know. You f*ucked her this morning." I cursed, trying my hardest to keep my distance from him. He still ran after me, trying his hardest to seize my attention.

"Hera!" He calls after me, irritated I wasn't stopping in my path so we could converse. "Hera!" He runs after me, grabbing my arm to halt my steps.

"What Zeus. What!" I seethed. I was still upset at him for kissing me in front of Aides yesterday. I just wanted to be reunited with my love.

I needed this plan to go smoothly.

"You seem tense wife" Zeus teases. I snatched my arm away and lean against the wall. He would leave me alone until I asked him what he wanted.

"What Zeus. What could you possibly want with me"

"Well, if you're going to be mean" he pretended to pout, walking away.

"Zeus!" I groaned, pulling his arm so he could turn back. He looked into my eyes and smiled.

"Well, I may have neglected to tell you one tiny little detail."

"How tiny?" I snapped, impatient to hear the detail.

"ZEUS!!!!!!!" A shrill voice rang from the back of Aide's palace.

Oh no....
It couldn't be.
And in that instant, my heart dropped.
Not today of all days.
Not now!!

"GOD OF THUNDER!!!!!" Her voice was even louder this time. She was coming closer and closer.

"Hera is here" he smiled, taking relish in my authentic surprise. "Her arrival must have slipped my mind"

I leaped to choke his neck but he was too quick, easily avoiding my reach.
"I will KILL YOU" I fumed, gathering my dress and looking around the room to plan my escape. The real Hera could not see me. If she did, my plan would be ruined.

"ZEUS!!!!!! I know you're here!!! I smell your sweaty musk!!!!"  She shouted even harsher.

"I have to hide! Go distract her!" I snapped pushing Zeus away. I hated how calm he was.
"You think you are so clever!" I snapped, running and pulling at the vases and portraits that lined the hallway. There must be somewhere I could hide.

"Clever? No. Sneaky? Yes," Zeus proclaimed.

"I don't have time for your brainless proclamations! Now go!" I pushed him away so he could comfort his real wife.

I had to find a spot to hide, and fast!
