The hot rays of the afternoon sun radiated against the bright marble tiling of the Olympian floor. Poseidon's heavy steps traveled through the vibrant halls of Mt. Olympus as he and I joked in familiarity, both of us heading to the dining hall for lunch.

"Athena wails more than the widows of the sea-men on earth" Posedian spat with distatste.

"Athena finds peace in the purity of her own voice brother," I answer through a chortle. The esteemed 10 had just broken for rest at their prolonged gathering. I grew weary of these bimonthly assemblies where each deity competed to talk over each other.

We continued past the towering ivory pillars of the foyer into the spacious dining room where all the deities were queued to pick their meal. I resist the urge to roll my eyes as Poseidon continued discussing matters pertaining to the meeting.

"What is taking so long?" I shout. I push past the deities in line and move to retrieve my meal of Mutton and Hornfruit, sitting at an empty table to attack it wildly.

Moments later, I lean against the wall, conversing with Hermes, Poseidon, and Dionysis about civil matters pertaining to the earth. The ripe juices of a crisp pear dribble against my chin as I indolently observe the scene. It was half-past noon which meant the restart of the assembly would soon commence.

As I sneakily turn to conceal the core within Posedion's pockets, my spirits become unsettled. It was as if my peace knew something rare had entered the space. I look away from my fruit and lay eyes on the most majestic creature I've ever seen. When she walked into the room, my whole world stalled.

Her face was like the fiery glow of dawn, lifting my gaze and drawing me in. Her dress of dark emerald popped against the deep bronze of her skin. Long coils of curly brown hair fell into soft layers around her bare shoulders.

And her eyes?

My god, they were simply spellbinding; more potent than my thunder.

Alluringly, she would blink her eyes from time to time, allowing her eyelashes to flutter like the wings of a sparrow. My ears were hypnotized by the beautiful sounds of her laughter. Each jovial vibration was her spell for fertility, producing life within each vibrant roll.

This was the woman....

the one that would impair my temperance.

"You're drooling" Poseidon closes my mouth as he breaks my prolonged gaze.

"Who is that" I demand, impatient for his answer.

"That is Demeter, the last chosen Olympian of the 12, mother goddess some might call her. Since our other brother resides in the underworld, she will take his place for now."

"Her beauty is so rare, it supersedes with Athena's. Even greater than Aphrodite's" I smile as take in her charm.

"Surely Hera would like to share her verdict?" Poseidon brings me back to my sullen reality.

"You are no fun brother! If I would have known better, I am married to you!" I groan through a breathy laugh.

___

Now every mortal and god knew Zeus was the mighty ruler of Olympus and first in command. He was the exalted god of thunder who won everything he wanted and acquired all that he asked for.

From the land on the earth to the beasts of the seas; he could have all he wanted...

and he would have her too.

——-

The beautiful goddess waves goodbye to her friends and disappears into the garden of Gethseme near the outskirts of the Mountains. I deliberately follow her as she moves along the palace grounds.

The heat of the humid air attacks my skin as I step into the canopy of the trees. She grins and falls into the soft grass of the earth, taking out a flask of oil to plant a bounty of oval seeds.

I observe her with intrigue as she plants the fruit of her labor. After moments of watching behind the bushes, I decide to make my presence known.

"Even some goddesses aspire to be left alone" she voices and halts my actions. She turns to where I stand, her eyes studying my figure. "Hello, Zeus" she bows her head with respect but continues to plow the earth.

"I never seem to catch you as you always wander by yourself. "

"Sometimes solitude is the best form of assurance" she shrugs through a tempting smile. I am bewitched by her wisdom and continue to approach her form.

"Your eyes seem to lock onto mine every time I enter a room god of thunder"

"That is because my eyes are naturally drawn to beauty. My spirit causes me to sin before my eyes can steer away"

"Surely Hera is all the beauty you could ever desire?" she leans her palms agasint the soft blades of the grass. I could sense she was still unreceptive to my charm; I didn't blame her, we had only met mere moments before.

"You are not Hera and Hera is not you" I answer, following the curves along her body.

I offer my hand to the maiden but she watches at it curiously. She reaches out to touch it but quickly retracts it away, as if she was envisioning the future of her actions. She sat at the tip of her knees, contemplating my spirit with a merciful expression. As if submission to my touch were a spellbinding contract that could never be broken.

Finally, she convinces her mind to adopt her hesitancy and involuntarily grazes my palm.

I pounce at her lapse of judgment and pull her into my chest, grabbing her tiny waist with care.

"Haven't they told you, mother goddess, to never trust the god of thunder?" I whisper as I pull her plumps lips towards mines; I was ravenous to taste them.

"I am not keen on the warnings of others. Eve still consumed the forbidden fruit despite the warning?" she boasts and carefully led my hands away to refocus on her crops.

"What is painted as forbidden is enticing to even the most powerful god" I return. She continues to bend over her produce, digging the soil with her manicured hands.

"Pity a godess like you will make me wait in chase. We both know you will wind up in my bed" I gloat indifferently.

"Chase is fun god of thunder. For even, the most powerful gods must seldom be humbled" she sings, running her soft hand across my chest. She picks a mouth-watering apple and bites into its ripened core; its white juices dripped against her luscious lips. Her tongue seductively glided to the bottom of her skin as she lapped the liquid dripping from her mouth.

"What a shame...rotten fruit" she sighs complacently dropping the rest of the apple atop my open palm and retreated into the saftey of Olympus.
